131whp in a Mercury Topaz!?!?

Dyno Graph (55kb)

Mods:

Airbox bottom cutout
Airbox lid smoothed
Stock paper air filter
2.3L MAF (much bigger than the stock 3.0L MAF)
3inch mandrel tube joining MAF to TB
2.5" catback exhaust with garbage thrush super turbo muffler (reduces from 2.5" to 2" or 2.25" internally)
Mobil 1 syn 10w-30, if you can call oil a mod 😉

Those mods cost me ~$100usd.

For reference, a stock 3.0L V6 5speed Topaz dyno's ~110whp between 4700-5200rpm...
By 5500rpm, I'm pushing about 25hp more than a stockers 100hp.


 
do you have a dyno before mods?

maybe it was higher before mods even at dyno, remember each dyno has settings that could be different and show more or less of what it should be

I never dyno'd it before the mods, but I have a dyno of a completely stock one that pushed those figures I'm quoting. The power curves are even until 3krpm, at high point mine starts going up.

My best kill was taking a ~95 Z24 with his girlfriend in the car 😀

I so can't wait to take a Civic Si of any sort 🙂

First off, I'm not 100% sure where the figure of 10K canadian came in (what's that, 7 grand US?), but he fabbed a lot of the stuff himself. He paid $600 (500 plus a $100 fix), so I don't know how the rest of the install cost him $9400 CAD more 😕 but then again I don't know much about the project

Jules, obviously a person who builds a Topaz with a SHO motor doesn't want a cookie cutter car.

Thanks Vic, I love the low end grunt of the car, it's what makes the car worthwhile 🙂

And as for $10g, I recall reading that somewhere, but it may have been the cost for a SHOP to have done that, I don't think that's what it actually cost him to toss the SHO in there. Lemme go search it.

 
my car lays down about 130whp stock, its a 16V 2.0L SOHC

it probably puts down around 140whp I would guess right now.

1/4 in 15.8s for a Focus SVT compared to my car which does it in ~16.1 *Car & Driver road test... that was back in 92 with poor tires and 20hp less than I'm pushing.

Heck, even the ubar dorifto machine, the 240sx, does the 1/4 in roughly the same time.
I wanted to buy one but they're $$$ and insurance is killer.

Simply, this was the fastest car I could get for the money (less than $2g's CAD)
