While the subject has been brought up, although I agree bootymac's watch doesn't look particularly expensive - how would one identify an expensive watch just by looking at it?

My Kenneth Cole was tagged at about $300 CDN, though I bought it for less. Looked sharp enough to my layman eyes.

That's just a rebaged Geneva watches.
 
Your friends obviously know nothing about watches/jewelry. Swiss is probably the most knocked off brand in existance.
 
It's probably not much worse than an actual Swiss Army watch. No offense to SA owners, but to me mass-produced quartz watches with mineral glass crystals are basically fungible.
