Hello everyone. I have around 1300 to spend freely while I configure my computer over at new egg. I would like to post the configuration that I have and see if anybody has any ideas about it. I guess, first I would like to be sure I didnt miss anything and some of this stuff wont be compatible. Here is the config.

By the way, if anybody could reccomend a good monitor for me as well that would be great, I have that money, (300) set aside extra because I am afraid to buy one online without seeing it. LCD wide is preffered. Here is the config.

I made sure I got a sound card in and speakers though I guess they could have waited. I got two HD's to do a raid 0 config. Also, I put on the lowest Core 2 Duo I could find and made sure the Motherboard was compatible all the way up to quad so I have no issues upgrading in the future.

Please help me out here with a healthy discussion before I decide to drop the dough on this. If you think one or more of my components could be dropped out for cheaper things and still get the same performance that would be great to.

EDIT: By the way, I know Vista is yet to be the smartest buy, but I still will have my old comp for things that dont work with vista yet.

Wait a few more days to order. Intel is cutting prices. Also as a side note, I cant see your wishlist...do you mind posting the specs you have?

What are you gonna use your computer for? Also, in most cases, onboard sound is just fine (works good with my x-530's).

EDIT: I am a gamer. I intend to use it for gaming. I have no illusions of this being the best gaming rig out there though. What I want is upgradability, so later when things are better I will get a dx10 card.

And beleive me, that card is a huge upgrade for me I think. I am running on an old 128mb mobility radeon 9600.

The first thing you need to do is get a less expensive motherboard and put the savings toward an 8800GTS. Do NOT put a 7950GT into a new PC when you're spending that kind of money. Secondly - ditch the Hiper PSU and get a 520W Corsair. You won't regret it.

I have heard that the 8800 drivers (DX10) are really bad still. Is that wrong?

Anyways, could you provide a link to the lower priced MB you would reccomend and the different psu.

Both of those motherboards only have 1 pcie x16 slot. The one I picked has two and is capable of sli. I am hoping to keep this as upgradable as possible. I like the look of the psu though, I will see if I can work it in by lowerings something else. The psu I picked out did get a lot of great reveiws.

Hey guys, there is a chart from evga about that gpu. I notice that most monitors have 1440x900 or 1680x1050, and I dont see that on here. So there is another question I have. Does the moniters native resolution have to be on this chart or will I have to select one from this chart in order to display that on my monitor thereby not being able to run in the native resolution.

Hey man, thanks for the reply. Ok, I think I may go with that Power supply. I want something that I can trust.

Now about the case. I did look at that one and its cheaper but throughout the reviews alot of people said that the aluminum is so thin that the case rattles alot. I was worried about that. On the one I put on the configuration, I heard nothing about rattles. It also has a removeable motherboard tray and the power supply slides out to. It also comes with a fan on top as well? Do you still think that the one you put up is the better case just due to the bigger fans?

@BucNews I cant see your link, though I am guessing its not for gaming.

yeah, I think I would like to wait for those cards to drop in price a bit as I hear the drivers for them and dx10 is all spotty at the moment. I will upgrade later to the 8800 I think.
Plus if I go 8800 I want more than the 320mb of ram on it. I dont know, as I am writing this I am more intriuged by this idea. Do you think that the lower ram on the card will still allow it to perform better than the 7950 with 512? If so is it because of the stream proccessors?

If you play at very-high resolutions you will want more memory -- currently the benchies for my resolution 1280x1024 show very little value in paying the extra $120 for the 320mb of additional ram.

The difference between the 320MB and 640MB isn't too much at lower resolutions so I've heard. I went with the 640MB since I hope to get a 24" LCD sometime during the year. As far as DX10 is concerned, I don't plan on running Vista until atleast the first service pack.. and there aren't too many games out right now that even use DX10. By the time upgrading to Vista is necessary, I'd hope to see great drivers for Vista.

As the others have said definitely get an 8800 based card, while the vista drivers aren't perfect it still will outperform your 7950 and the difference will only grow over the coming years (plus it will actually play directx 10 games), if you are sticking with 1600x1000 or lower (most 20-22 widescreens are that) the 320 should be ok and if you watch for deals you can sometimes find them in the middle 200's.
