According to her bio on the conference speaker?s list, her installation of Debian GNU/Linux on a server before she had reached 10 years of age "proves that installing Debian really isn't very hard", although it should be noted that "Dad is around to answer questions" if trouble hits.

Of course installing debian "isn't very hard" when your father is the Debian project leader, who is standing over your shoulder as you install it. Following directions is fairly easy.

The poor girl -- her dad's going to make her go through geek hell by being at that conference... ;)

Good for her. I still don't like Linux. :p

And debian's install is ridiculous.

agreed.

Installs should not take more than 1 disc.

After my experience with gentoo and arch linux...I fully agree.

edit: as long as you have a decent internet connection that is ;)

Network installs should take at most one floppy. If you're using a good arch, it shouldn't take any. ;)

I cant imagine wanting to hear her speak if I was at that conference.. then again, I'll never go to a conference like that so maybe I'm in the wrong.

I kinda like Red Hat's installer. Sure, it takes 4 disks now, but it does a good job of letting me choose only the packages that I want. Almost everything seems to work "out of the box", too, and I don't have a waste a bunch of time finding drivers for "missing" hardware after the install.

Sounds like a great idea... children are terrible public speakers. I'd be amazed if her speech isn't filled with "ums" and "uhs" and awkwardness for all involved.

Every single distribution of linux has a target audience. You just fit well with the one aimed by redhat. I used to be in the target audience of Mandrake, but my needs changed so had to find a new home. It's really that simple :)

Doesn't it take more than 20 minutes to install RH? Anything that takes more than 1 cd (or 1 floppy for a network install) is just too much.
