13$k for used or 17$k for new? (honda fit)

At the time, I went with the Fit because the Civic didn't have a hatch. I don't purchase cars with only a trunk.

i'm that way now, having coupes my whole life, never into the old style hatchbacks, but these new ones are more SUV like, just smaller and love it, so easy to get stuff in and out of.

Fits are awesome space wise and for the price, you won't get more cargo room. I think its like 57 cubic feet. I love how the back seats fold very flat and bottom part folds up, which is the way i'm gonna keep it less i get passengers or hauling something so i can just toss my work gear on the floor board with tons of room.

thanks guys, think i have made up my mind about buying new, will probably test drive a 2012/2013 today and maybe get one by the end of the week!

For a Honda, new.
I was in the same situation but they hold their value so well it makes little sense to buy a gently used Honda. I got mine for 0% so its pretty hard to say no. Used car rates are higher too, so you also have to factor that in, if not paying cash.

really, %0? that's awesome! how long ago was that? was it during the 08-09 crash?

New for Honda, like everyone else says.

Unless you are very patient and get really lucky.

well i was with my 96 civic. not so much patient, just lucky. bought for 5$k and only major expense in last 8 years was fuel/brake lines rusted out, about 1.5$k to get fixed.

but i dunno if i feel like trying my luck again, lol.

Hehe, it took 3 months of patient looking to find a used Civic for my girlfriend. We eventually found one that was $4k below dealer retail book value. It was getting cleared out of a Toyota dealer's lot at the end of the season (this time of year).

I have an 07 Honda Fit (now wife's car) and love it....post pics of new car when you get it. I'm currently looking for another 07 cheap for myself.

I'm considering selling my 07 Fit Sport in TW (64k miles) but it's given me absolutely zero problems. It's loud and pretty damn slow on the highway but the gas mileage is great but it's REALLY practical. I think it looks pretty nice, too (only from angles - not dead-on).

It was April 2011. They had 0% on Civics, not sure about other models. (The 2012's were just hitting lots the month later)

Honestly the only way I'd buy new is if it was 0 or no more than 0.9%.

My car is TW as well... I love white.
I think the first generation Fit Sports are awesome. Nice car.

Lots of bad advice here.

#1. Assuming $13k price and 3% interest over 3 years (current going rates) you would be paying $610 in interest. Total price is $13610 over 3 years.

How many miles on this 13k Fit????

The second you drive that new Fit off the lot, it's worth 14-15k (minus 15-20%) BUT you are paying $17k (even at 0% interest).

I say, go used. It's a honda. Make sure you get all service records when you buy it and you will most likely have MANY Years of trouble free driving (assuming you treat it well).....AND 4000 in your pocket.

there is VERY few examples of "getting new over used is a better decision" out there.

They could. Even if the chance is small. I'm not willing to wisk a sudden $3-5k expense. I buy new, and sell just before the 100k mile extended warranty is up.

What a waste.

That's fine, car companies LOVE YOU. new car sale every few years.

Take my situation. 3 cars, all of them year 2000, 100-150 on EACH and 10 years of trouble free/car payment free driving.

There is no wrong way to choose, Both of them have benefits, the differences are for the buyer to decide, no you. As you can clearly see by simply googling your own quoted "getting new over used is a better decision" You can find that there are many, many examples of getting either or can be a better decision and is dependant on the individual completely.

General consensus of said searched results.
When considering financing, maintenance, taxes and other costs, buying a used vehicle may not always be cheaper than buying a new one

Also, in a world of 7 billion people, its not a good idea to use your linear "situation" as a comparison example. You can always find many more with an exact opposite situation.

woot woot, jus bought me a 2013 base auto fit! compared to a 96 civic, that thing is boss. will have to take some pics tomorrow!

got it for 17.8k$, could have probably haggled some but eh, i suck at that kind of thing. dealer is close to me and compared to other prices ive seen its lower than the median by a few hundred $

quick question....what options does it have? cause a base auto Fit is $16,900. and there isnt much markup on small cars. and i assume the 17,800 is before TTL and Doc fees? either way congrats on the purchase!!

the 17.8 was out the door, doc fees + TTL. i didnt get any options on it, but will probably be buying a few things in the next month or so, which will probably add a few hundred. the car base price was around 16.5, a few hundred for doc + title fees, and the rest basically taxes.

i did get an offer that was a little lower than that (about 200), but at a dealership that was twice as far away. just wasnt worth it to me for 200$.

Grats on the new car.
Should have gotten the Sport though! 😀

eh, most of the stuff that used to be on the sport is standard now. only thing i would have really cared about was the floor mats (didnt realize those werent standard 🙁) and maybe the paddle shifters. but not worth the 1.6$k to me.
