13 days left to step up, should I bother?

I currently have a 8800gts 640

I had planned to step up with hopes of maybe new gen cards coming out, but that didnt happen.

I seriously doubt I'll be spending the money for the full price of the yet to be released new cards

so I'll be using whatever I have/step up to for a while

so step up from gts to gtx worth it?
gts to ultra?

what about the gtx acs3 is it worth it at all?

Is the untra and the gtx basically the same card?
or are there serious differences?

It doesn't sound like you are having FPM problems with any of your games.

It will cost you about $200, and don't forget about shipping both ways, and being without a card for a few weeks.

I passed up on that opportunity back in March, and am still very happy with my 7950GT.

But it is up to you afterall...

I wouldn't bother to swap it to a 8800GTX if I had a 8800GTS. Wait for a brand new card to come out that has at least twice the performance. Or simply go for SLI.

did you try overclcoking your gts using rivatuner? if u can hit around 620-650core, 1500-1700+ shaders 1800mhz+ memory (if ur lucky 2000mhz) memory then the performance in most cases would be as fast or almost as fast as a stock gtx.

mmm... 1680x1050... for games like CoH and bioshock and upcomming games he should have some laginess at max setting... but not much... it really depends on weather you want to spend hundreds of dollars getting a few percent more FPS...

Or wait for a drastically better video card.

At these specs and resolutions there shouldn't be such a terribly huge difference between the two...

A better question then would be... how rich are you?

Judging by the length of this thread, and the questions and responses, the OP does NOT really need a new card, IMO.

I would just wait for a new KILLER card from NVidia or.... ATI/AMD!

Yea not a rich guy

just wanted a top notch system and video card was where I went cheap.

What about the ultra?
Still not worthwhile?

I guess it would make more sense to just save a little more for a little longer and get the new card when it comes out.

The rumors from the Nvidia side is a GX2 in the 1st quarter next year and a single GPU high end won't be out until September. So if you don't want to put up with the problems of SLI on the GX2, you will have to wait almost a year for a new fast card. That's a long time especially with the best gaming year I can remember upon us.

Nvidia is even marketing tri-SLI starting next month so they will be all about SLI for the next year. I believe it is because either they can't come up with a new high end until then or they feel single GPU performance is too good for right now and want people to buy their motherboards and multiple video cards.
