These drives are all bare drives I believe. Good deal nonetheless. I am not too sure about the reliability of the vendor ( ESBuy.com ), I ordered the Teac and I will update this thread with my experience.

I'm not sure why you'd go with ESBuy.com rather than CompUSA. I would personally wait a little while as the new 16x CD-RW's gain popularity the popular Plextor, TDK, Yamaha and Iomega 12x CD-RW's will probably drop it price. Slap on a coupon, possible rebate, free CD-Rs, free shipping, eBates or whatever we can brew up you can come up with a pretty killer deal.

If I HAD to purchase a CD-RW now I would wait until Buy.com offered another $30 off $150 coupon then buy it from there.

I got in on the compusa Iomega ZipCD (12x) deal about 4 1/2 weeks ago. I was suppose to get my drive last friday then they told me it would be delivered on monday and subsequently on wednesday (which is today) and still no drive. I spoke to a CSR at compusa and she wasn't sure when my order was going to get fufilled and I just grew tired of it.. so I told her to cancel my order. The price for the Iomega drive is the same as the Teac from ESBuy.com so I thought that would be a better way to go. Oh well.... I just want my drive.... hopefully soon.
 
Ordered the the "AOpen" 12x CDRW drive from ESBuy.com... got the drive yesterday... installed today... doesn't work right today. The drive they sent me was actually made by Ricoh... (as per the model number RW7120A). Would only burn at 4x, no higher. Wouldn't read burned, closed, CDs made by my previous Sony 4x burner, and just coughed on RW discs. The drive looks just like the AOpen drives (same bezel)... but beware... it isn't!

I just hope I can send the piece of junk back, now.

If you'd like the complete list of problems I've had with this drive, just let me know...

 
I ordered and have received the TEAC from ES a couple of weeks back. I've been able to make a coaster at 8X by simply opening a couple of browser windows. Maybe I'm doing something wrong... but I don't think so. It is definitly an OEM drive, with software, cables and a couple of blank disks included.

All in all... I wish I'd gotten a Plextor instead. Ah well... they just released the 16x with burnproof, guess I'll have one of those in a couple months and sell this one off.

I order the 12x10x32 TEAC about a few weeks ago. I haven't really used it but it came with Nero, cables, and two cdr's. I flashed the Firmware to the 2.0B. I'll try to burn something this evening and let you guys know. I did call and ask about the burn proof feature. The drive I was sent has a 2.0 Firmware and burn proof where as the 1.0 drives won't. Netopia you might want to make sure the drive shows up as a W512EB in the properties windows in Device Manager. Mine does and has a firmware upgrade on the German and Japanese TEAC Sites. Hope this helps.
 
Yeah, not sure why anyone would go with ESbuy over Compusa. Granted I don't always like Compusa's pricing but atleast they're reputable. However, I'm surprised that people are having so many problems with these drives if they're made by Ricoh. I always felt Ricoh was top of the line in CD burners. When I got my Ricoh 2x2x6 and later my Ricoh 4x4x24 they were absolute top of the line...

I don't think anything beats the Plextor-made ones now though. As far as the 16x's are concerned, there's diminishing returns... There's about a one minute or less difference in burn time between a 12x and a 16x that costs twice as much. No thanks.
