Yep. I had no problem getting maximum benefits based on previous salary, and with the $25 federal "bonus" I'm getting $610/wk here in MN. Why the hell would I take a menial job for less than $25/hr? I can make $15 sitting on my ass. I'm holding out for an executive position. :awe:

Get it while getting is good. Personally I'd give up on working for others what little I've gleaned from your personality. You're probably underpaid in that role. Keep in mind you still get bennies while not showing profit.

Yeah, I'm really a terrible employee. I'd hire somebody like me, but then I'm the kind of person who likes people who get the job done, even if it's not the way I would do it. It seems like a lot of people/companies are just looking to hire yes men to sit around and kiss their asses for 40 hours a week. I've been looking into some different options, working on a business plan, etc. If I found a decent job right now I'd probably take it. Decent meaning six figure and not being too much of a pain in the ass. But really all jobs to me are just stepping stones to telling corporate America to shove it.

School = lose unemployment benefits. That ridiculous rule is an incentive to not retrain.

This is where Obama could make a move. Introduce a Temporary(1-2 Years) Retraining Program for UE/UI recipients. Although, are US UE/UI Programs State run? If so the Feds probably can't do much. I suppose they could offer a Program for States to accept/reject instead.

I could tell you stories about lockheed that made me want to stab my eyeballs out. retired military loading dock supervisors sitting reading magazines all day drawing 80K, doing same study 3x and long as govt money was there, over-budget on every project and asked DOE/DOD for adjustments. Had to GTFO.

Yup the biggest problem politicains refuse to address is why my iPhone (and pretty much everything else in my house) is made in China instead of Detroit.

To me, the pittance that unemployment costs is more than made up for being able to not give a shit about what happens in Detroit. You got your unemployment money, now fvck off and die and quit your complaining about pricing yourself out of market for a job that can be done by someone in Bangaladesh with a 1st grade education.

Math will catch up. Like thermodynamics you can't violate laws of mathematics forever. In the meantime you have just generated a large swath of Americans uneducated, unaccountable and totally unemployable. Cue LA riots x 1000. Prepare.

Good luck with the retraining.

"After Training, Still Scrambling for Employment"

Misnomer at best.

When I say retrain I don't mean take a few classes at community college to learn your way around Microsoft Word, something literally fvcking anybody in a white collar environment can do. I mean change careers. I know somebody with a degree in some useless area who leveraged it to get into a fast-track RN program. Start to finish a year, from nothing to an employed registered nurse. That is a career; that is training. Perusing a textbook on Excel is not.

If you're going to get serious you find a career that has actual employment, confirm it first (unlike the poor bastard on the second page of that article who got his education and THEN found out nobody hires people with his "training").

What are you going to do as a nurse when 1/2 nurses are paid from govt and gov't can't spend no more? I suggest 11b.

Incidentally nurses lay off all the time. My wife is currently a lecturer teaching nursing (can't get full time due to hiring freeze) and was laid off before that.

None of you understand all support services are dependent on production.

OK, LOL, that's the only 11B I know of but I wasn't sure if you were talking about something else entirely. But sure, we can always use more bodies to throw at the enemy. It worked for Russia.

Best government-run retraining program I can think of... plus full pay and benefits, relocation, and a lifetime support network. Military has produced some of the most successful business leaders in our history.

There will be no new jobs (except the ones obama pays $280,000 each for that will last under a yaer) for the forseeable future. Business are holding on to whatever cash they have. There are so many damn new regulations coming out of D.C. what business would be crazy enough to invest money to expand... not knowing if these regulations will kill their profitability.

I just hope the chinese keep these unemployed people happy.

Unfortunately people are gonna have to relocate and/or retrain in another field. It's a PITA but sometimes you've gotta do it. Survival.

The problem is that this is much, much easier said than done. What if you are upside down on your home and it would cost you money to unload it? It's also difficult to move to a strange place without already having a job lined up where you don't know anyone, especially if you are unemployed and don't have any money.

As for retraining--retrain, reeducate--for what? What if you aren't physically able to work as a nurse? What if you're concerned that after you've retrained and reeducated you'll face massive age discrimination and discrimination against the unemployed (meaning that you've just wasted a lot of time and money retraining)?

It's easy to say what you've said, but not as easy to do when you start contemplating the practical aspects of it.

Right now millions of people are going to college to retrain and reeducate for various fields and they are going to discover that (surprise) there just aren't enough jobs available for people in the fields they have just trained for. Ironically, people probably retrain for fields other people are trying to leave through retraining.

We have 5 or 6 people who need work for every 1 available job. There's just no way around that. All of the retraining, reeducating, and relocating in the world will not fix the nation's economy and job market.

Regarding nursing, if 5% or 10% of the unemployed Americans retrained to be nurses, we'd probably end up having a very large oversupply of nurses. The ability to train to be a nurse may be a good plan for some, but the nursing field is not going to solve our problem.

The end game of any economy is a 99% service economy, whether through offshoring or technologically eliminating the need for low skilled laborers. We're quickly getting there, so you better figure out how to make it work or NO amount of government intervention will solve things.

I know of 3 people at this moment that have decided to become a Nurse. I wonder what the stats are for those entering into that field now. It's the IT of the new century.

In that scenario and assuming the continuation of a Capitalist/Free Market based Economy, Government Intervention becomes Increasingly Important, not less.

I agree after 2.5 years of unemployment if I got somebody's resume I'd use it as toilet paper. That is enough time to completely retrain in a good number of fields. Time to stop kidding yourself. If you're out of work for two years or 2.5 years you are either lazy as tits or in completely the wrong field; switch fields, sucka. How long are you gonna wait?

I've been out (officially) for almost three years now. HUNDREDS of resumes out to all fields (things I'm perfectly qualified for, underqualified for, overqualified for, etc). From highly technical to fast food. I've had one interview from all that. If you can find a person I've worked for or with who calls me lazy, I'll buy you a keg of whatever you're drinking.

Employment has very little to do with the ability of the worker.

Oh, and fyi, I'm not receiving unemployment.
