128MB Radeon 8500LE $99 shipped

anyone have the sapphire version?

I was planning on getting the 8500le but Im guessing that with nv30 due out soon, prices are going to drop like you wouldnt believe on current stuf either right around or right after xmas

I think if your going to upgrade you should wait a couple months unless you REALLY need/want to
 
I have ths sapphire version and it works great .. the only problem that I had with it was probably driver conflicts with winXP, so my system would lock up (could be bc I Downloadded drivers for ATI cards not sure) .. what I did to finally fix the problem was cleanly reinstalled windows and installed the drivers installed on the sapphire-tech website and some drivers that the ATI provided for cards that were powered by ATI like Sapphire .. if anyone else used the sapphire with the regular ATI drivers then correct me if I was wrong.
 
the memory on this baby may not be DDR but SDR. Bought the 9000 Saphhire version and ATI's software is showing the memory type as SDR SGRAM instead of DDR. Wrote to Sapphire about this and of course, they're not responding. And, Newegg would not let me return it. Bummer
 
It's clocked at 200/250 instead of 275/275 and the memory is cheaper. It's still not a bad card. My former GF3 clocked at 220/520 would max out at 1024x768x32 with 1x anistropic.

I can run the Sapphire version at 1600x1200 with 16x anistropic and it's completely playable. I'd recommend this card over a GF3.

275/275 is the retail clock. A standard LE ships at 250/250.

I can run the Sapphire version at 1600x1200 with 16x anistropic and it's completely playable. I'd recommend this card over a GF3.

Newegg also has the "Built by ATI" 8500LE 64MB Bulk clocked at 250/275 with 3.3ns memory for $86 (including free shipping). Might want to look at that one since the clock speed will likely matter more than the extra 64MBs.

not in the near future it wont. your going to need that extra ram. and most likely you will be able to clock this thing up to at least 250/275....

The way I see it, by the time the need for 128MB is realized, the 8500LE gpu will be out dated and you will need to upgrade again anyways 🙂

Both are good cards and good deals. Guess it come down to whether you want the 128MB or not. More memory definetly won't hurt anything hehe.

I see your point warsong. You may be right that by the time we really need that memory it may be time for an upgrade anyway... however if you have the 128 mb then maybe you could stretch an old card a little longer than one with 64 mb?
 
for the price it looks pretty good, but I would still go for a Built by ATI cards. They are just better than any powered by ATI cards and mine OCes to 305/305 with no problem (Radeon 8500 le 128mb). Oh and I got mine for $85, barecard new. 🙂

I don't know if it is still goin on but BB and CompUSA both had retail versions of the 128mb Radeon 8500LE Built by ATI for $99. Picked one up, works great!

I got the retail LE 128 with the 3.6ns ram, and I have it clocked at 320/300 (the most the Rage3D will O/C the ram) and it runs stable. I haven't tried pushing the core more, because frankly, I don't need it. Hell, I keep it at 300/300 or 275/275 mostof the time, but the thing runs solid.

The LE Sapphire ships at 200/250, not 250/250. I can play Battlefield 1942 at those specs O/C'd to 260/230.

Edit: I believe some ship out at clocked higher, but I guess it's just a crap shoot on which one you get.
 
The sapphire LE oem cards are GROSSLY underclocked. They have 200 or less on the memory. The retail sapphire cards would be 250+

I have an OEM sapphire 64mb LE that newegg mistakenly sent me. It only runs 183MHz DDR!!! 5.5ns ram !!

It works fine, but WOW thats underclocked. Retail 8500's memory speed is OVER 50% faster than this piece of crap.

at least get a 250/250 built by ATI card is what I would say.


The reviews that say their card came at 250 mem were probably meant for another card. This 128 card will come with either 200 or 183 with 5ns+ ram, so overclocking over 215 or so will probably be nearly impossible.
