Looking to help a friend upgrade his dell, very disappointed when I opened the case to see pcie 1x and pci slots only. Would I be better off getting a HIS X1300 128MB GDDR2 (512MB HyperMemory) with PCIe 1x interface or a VisionTek X1300 256MB DDR2 with PCI interface? The cost difference is small so I am mostly interested in looking at which would give best quality/speed for light gaming. The computer I'm looking at upgrading has 1GB ram.

I searched but did not find this topic addressed.

i would definitely NOT get the 128MB with the 512MB hypermemory. get the X1300 256MB DDR2.

what are the prices? he may be able to get a 6600/7600GS at that price...

According to gpu-review, the PCI X1300 is maybe 30% slower than a vanilla 6600 in raw performance. In real world numbers, might be a little more or a little less. The hyper-memory and turbo cache cards tend to not do so well and have issues with some apps so I would stay away with them.
