I think his point was he doesn't want to waste a slot on 128, he'd rather stick a 256 in there. How spoiled we have become! It's true tho, I have extra 128 sticks now that are running in machines that dont even need it, because I have no open slots left on my main machine, 256/128/128.

Strange, minimum shipping seems to be $11.....seems a little high for the SDRAM....

Hi all.. I'm new to the forum, so perhaps you can clue me in as to why you don't like Crucial here? You posted this "deal" on memory... but any day, you can get 128MB for $30 @ Crucial. And >$60 for 256. And there's free 2 day shipping for awhile.

Is there some reason you guys don't like crucial? I hope not, I just bought it!

crucial isn't the highest quality brand for ram...Other brands such as mushkin and corsair have better performance ram than crucial. Crucial just have ultra good prices for the quality of ram they have.

Crucial DDR I'm pretty sure is the best kind of DDR. Mushkin's ddr isnt as good as their sdram.

As far as I know, Crucial RAM often matches or exceeds the quality of Corsair or Mushkin.. and vice-versa. The performance of RAM is always going to vary, based on the configuration it's used in (and what the user attempts to make it do). One motherboard (or chipset) may love the Mushkin, the next may prefer Crucial. It would be handy to look at all these manufacturers of very high-quality RAM and declare one of them as "THE BEST"..but that's not likely to happen.

Look at any of the testing/benchmarking sites.. most of them mention these 3 brands of RAM, most declare their preference.. and most of them prefer one or the other. Honestly, I haven't really seen Corsair at the top of anyone's charts lately.

Personally, I've used all 3 brands, and never had a problem. I tend to have better luck with Crucial RAM in an overclocking scenario. They certainly rank among the top few memory manufacturers at most hardware sites I visit. Including this one..

if you check the reviews of DDR sdram, in terms of Overclockability, corsair is at the top, and followed by crucial then mushkin. in terms of DDR mem, crucial is better.

If you want to buy this RAM use the banner add at the top of this page, or any other Anandtech page not the link, that way Anandtech gets $

SS284 - Yeah u're right on that. However, most of the reports don't use a big enough sample. Overall for the price/performance, nothing touches crucial.

Can anyone notice the performance difference of an equal speed grade ram made by different manufacturer? I really can't tell a few frames difference by my naked eyes. In terms of overclocking, I bet most of the brand name PC133 Cas2 ram can overclock to around 150 cas2 easily (in fact the last 128MB Crucial I have can do 155+ cas2), and if you're thinking of 160+ cas2 you better make sure first your motherboard can go that high (eg, Iwill KT133A, and all boards having the new batch of KT133A chip, etc). In terms of customer service, Crucial is obviously the best there is. Their 30days money-back and price guarantee make sure you don't lose too much if the price is gonna fall again (who can tell me how low can the price of ram goes?). I don't know much about Mushkin but I would buy from Crucial anyday (and they have free shipping now).
