I don't mean to flame but to just show some other options. I bought the SlimX for 79 at amazon and i couldn't be happier. The control display is amazing, with full configuration screens and not to mention the FM radio that makes this player irresistable. If you don't mind the cd size player (im a student so i almost always have my backpack) then I dont't know what advantages mp3 players have on the SlimX. This is a great deal if you have your sights set on a compact mp3 player though.

I've seen the FL100 on E-bay and elsewhere.

Two questions (i.e. do these features justify the increased price):

1) How well does the voice recording feature work?
2) Does it function as an external hard drive when plugged into a PC or do you need to use special software to transfer the MP3 files?

ultra-compact (a little bigger than a lighter)
SD mem slot
128 or 256 MB built-in
FM tuner

I've been using for the last 5 months and love it.

From cooljunkbiz site:

16 pi hi-fi sound earphone-The effort of Digitalway for hi-fi sound will be continued. You can hear the muffled bass sound by 16 pi hi-fi earphone from the carefully set main player.

Well...color me crapping myself.

I ordered the DMG a few weeks back. It's still OK for the price but I'm slightly disappointed with the quality.

+ Long battery life
+ Small size (as far as SMC players go)
+ Nice backlit LCD

~ Decent sound quality but nothing spectacular

- Unpauses 1-5 seconds off from the point you pause
- Very faint but noticible hiss in background
- Relatively heavy

Maybe if they focused more on the MP3 player part and got rid of the useless recorder, memo pad, and camera functions it would have been better.

I have the sports version, FY-100 I think it is, love it to death. I got the 256k version, added 256k more and run with and drop it all the time.

Its great, but the headphones are average, I replaced them.

Gee I hope not 256k plus 256k more, you'll actually have enough room to have less than a minute of music :D ;)
I actually got my self a iRiver IFP series player only 64MB and non-upgradeable but looks really pretty (hey I'm a girl, having something pretty around your neck is important :p), is firmware upgradeable it produces great music, and had the same wonderful control as the SlimX.

Since when is it pretty (and witty and... nm) to have an MP3 player hanging down one's neck? :D

Well if anything hangs off my neck, I would rather it look pretty than look ugly :D

1) Check the MPIO YahooGroup. Under their files section they have vocie samples recorded the FL100. Judge for yourself if they sound good enough, or search through the group

2) It does not act as a USB Mass Storage device. In order to transfer files, you need to use the included MPIO Manager software or use the free FPIO software written by an MPIO user. Much better IMO.

The yahoogroup is probably the best resource on this device. Check it out if you want to learn more

Same price as the one posted for 128MB, although I think you do have to pay shipping. Main difference is compactflash/microdrive (expandable to 1gb) vs SmartMedia (only expandable to 256mb) and rechargeable battery vs. AA battery.

Not bad, definately like the rechargable batt, and the expandability but no FM. You can get it with no memory card too for $80 (probably cheaper to get via newegg anyway).
