It is a new "pull" oem card. I ordered one a couple of months ago on the same deal from compgeeks. It is working great, so I just ordered another one. Use a 10% off coupon code from T*chbargains or that non-skinney wallet to get it under $100 shipped (3 day)
Linky
It is a solid card, overclocks well, while not red hot, a solid deal for a solid mid range card.

Ya, THG showed that the 128MB 8x card is a tad faster than the 64MB AGP4x one, while the 128MB 4x one is usually a tad slower unless the game demands a lot of memory.

Sounded like a good deal. Picked up one of those cards, with some Ram and a new HD. Coupon worked perfectly.

Thanks man, was looking for a pricedrop for that card.

Says "card only"...

I guess this means no CDROM and you have to go driver-hunting, huh?

And no manual... does this one have jumpers that need setting?

Jumpers on a geforce?

Only have to go so far as nvidia.com or windows update for the drivers. I wouldn't cal that "hunting"

The driver CD that comes with video cards is usually outdated by the time u get it anwyays. This is a decent if not real good deal on a video card that was over $200 a year ago.

OneStep,

Video cards don't usually have jumpers to set, and drivers that come on CD are usually out of date. A trip to nVidia's website will take care of your needs.

If I don't have an 8x slot, will this still work? Also, how can I find out if I have 8x or 4x? My comp is like 1.5 years old.

Mine works fine in a MSI KT3 Ultra 2 motherboard which offers only a 4X AGP slot. If your computer is only 1.5 years old and has an AGP slot, I would be willing to bet it is a 4X. My old MSI 6309 motherboards were the Via 694 (Apollo Pro 133a chipset) and they had the 4X AGP slot. What CPU are you running? It is my understanding that the 8X AGP graphics cards are backwards compatible with the 4X.
Oh and I usually get my drivers from guru3d.com

They will work on AGP 4X. Actually they'll even work in an AGP 1X slot IF the motherboard can supply enough power to the slot (can vary a lot on a board THAT old). It would be a bit of a waste to do that though, since the fastest CPU in an AGP 1X board is probably ~533MHz

Keep in mind that it's not that hard to find a TI4200 for under $100 these days, and if you're wanting to o'c it there are better options since (assuming the picture is correct) these have poor heatsinks and no heatsinks on the memory. If they can't o'c as much then the benefit of 8X AGP support or 128MB may be little to nothing. Also consider the memory speed, do we know what speed the chips on these are?

Frankly, this late in the product cycle I'd get either a Newegg refurbed Ti4200 for $70 or a faster card, but to each his own...

After buying two from newegg refurbs and having both arrive as pieces of crap, I went ahead and picked up one of these. I have a lot more faith in this than those at newegg, which have most likely been OC'd to death as one of the ones I recieved obviously had been. You won't find a 128MB 8x DVI/VGA/TV version at newegg for $70 anyways. They're normally at least $85.

Pricewatch lists an Inno3D card for $98 which is less than the $102 (tax in Cali) for the Asus card on compgeeks. What are the pros and cons of owning the Asus oem card over the inno3d one?

You sound a little unfairly biased... many people report no problems from Newegg refurbs, and after all you know what the card is, so if it's "crap" it's not a surprise, it would've been crap new. Some Asus and MSI cards depart from the nVidia reference design by a lot, but for the most part all the cards are pretty much the same except for the heatsink, type of capacitors used, and the memory speed. We already know that the Asus card has an inferior heatsink (if it is as pictured) but no detail yet about the memory. The caps look ok but there are only enough of them to qualify as the low-end TI4200 part, not the larger count associated with "higher-end" 4800, 4400 or 4600 cards.

What's the significance of "OC'd to death"? They only take RMAs for 30 days, right? So IF it's been OC'd for <30 days, that's hardly much wear if you're also going to o'c the card, rather IF the card still works I'd see it as proof that the card (so far) can tolerate a little o'c. BTW, what evidence do you have that these cards were o'c ? If anything, I would expect any knowledgeable user to o'c the card somewhat, as part of a burn-in to see if the card is worth keeping.

Last June, I jumped on this deal. What I received was a Asus V8420 :( It was still a 4200 but it is AGP4X and has no DVI output. I bought this card primarily for the DVI output. Compgeeks never issued me an RMA, I called, requested via their website and e-mailed them and the only response I received was that my request was forwarded to the RMA dept. In the end, I had to complain to my credit card company and atm, they are still waiting to hear from Compgeeks! This is my first bad experience with Compgeeks, 2 years ago I had to RMA a power supply under warranty and everything went smoothly.

I got one of these last time Compgeeks had them. It comes clocked at 250 core 515 memory. Memory is 3.6 ns Hynix. The card comes bare. No cd, no cables. But you can easily get drivers from Nvidia.

I didn't mess with overclocking the card much but it was stable at 290 core and 560 memory. Memory overclocking seems limited. After testing briefly I ran stock 250/515. It's more than enough for all my games at 1024 x 768 at 120 hz.

But I just gave this card to my sister as she needed one for the new machine I'm putting together for her and placed ATI Radeon 9800 NP from Newegg into my rig. :)

Now I'm tempted to get this card again for my wife's machine which still has Geforce 2 pro. $89 with coupon plus shipping is sweet deal and I love the card I got last time.

Ti4200 are getting hard to find and for $89 for 128 meg Asus card with DVI and video out is great deal IMO.

Yeah, biased since two cards within a week's time were both crap. I've got a motherboard and cpu from them that work fine. Newegg is known to accept things over 30 days, but I'd say 30 days is plenty time to kill a card. Without ramsinks, ram can get rather hot very quick while overclocked. One of the cards I got had obviously had this happen, as the ram chips were discolored and the card smelled. I "expect any knowledgeable user" to know what overheated chips look like

I guess I'd be biased too if it happened to me, but I've bought a few myself and never had anything nearly that bad... on a couple of occasions there were tiny surface-mount filter caps "missing" from the back of the card, though they worked fine even highly o'c.

Thanks, Naustica. I had to check the card I got in June as well, and mine also has the 3.6 Hynix memory on it. It has run great for me, and I look forward to getting my new one and installing it on the new Shuttle AN35N NForce2 motherboard to see how it competes with near identically configured KT333 systems. I thought it was a decent deal, so I posted it. (After I had my own confirmed, of course. I think they only had 24 or so of them when I ordered mine)

My new Asus GF4Ti4200 arrived today. It came with Samsung 4ns ram instead of the 3.6 Hynix that came on the first compgeeks Asus Ti4200 that I ordered back in May. Hopefully it will perform as well. I will probably run it default for awhile. I did run 3dMark 2001 and got 11,639 3dMarks with my XP 1700+ running 11x166 on the Shuttle AN35N (1.84 Ghz clock speed) I am pretty happy for $97 incl. 3 day shipping. Ordered on Sunday, arrived Wednesday morning in Souteast Washington State. pretty good service for Compgeeks. I have looked and looked at all the benchmarks and I just can't justify an extra $60 to $80 for a 5% or less performance gain. And I sure can't justify (or afford) 4 times the price for a 30% increase in framerates. I may have to reconsider when Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 are released. I promised my 14year old a new Radeon 9700 or 9800 if he can consistently stay on the honor roll his first year of high school. If that won't motivate him, nothing will!

Ahhhh, this thread again...newegg wouldn't credit me back for both my refurb RMA shipping costs :| They only credited me one (the cheaper one)...pfft to newegg
