I just had a funny thought of a giant Chinchilla ransacking Tokyo, and a whole bunch of people screaming "Chinchilla" ;) :p

therefore if some-one scratchs another and draws blood, what should be done.

what about the children in day care that show agression or defends themselves by biting.
Put them down also?

Holy grasping at straws, Batman!

Yeah, being bit by skittish animals is common. There's isn't one type of small animal I haven't been bittien by: chincillas, ferrets, rats, mice, rabbits, birds, snakes, tarantulas, lizards, etc, etc... They're just not as predictable as say a cat or dog, but they're not really going to do too much damage either. It's just something to live with and learn about, as far as observing their behavior.

Like others have said, dogs are different since, depending on the breed, they can inflict serious and/or lethal damage. A family cat, OTOH, really shouldn't be put down for scratching, that's asinine. Putting a cat down for scratching/biting needs to be backed by more insurmountable behavioral/social problems, which is why feral cats are usually put down by the shelters.

Chinchirra, Chinchirra ...

Oh baby when you bite like that
You make your owner go mad
So be wise and keep off
Reading the signs of his waddy

Chinchirra, Chinchirra

We encourage our cat to attack playfully, he will draw blood on occasion. He has never gone for the face, and rarely attacks when unprovoked.

Depends on the animal, the situation, and severity of bite. If the animal is a cat or dog (domesticated for centuries and usually docile) and the attack if unprovoked and the bite is serous then yes put the animal down. Also depends on who was bitten, owner/family no, stranger yes. If it's another type of animal that is not normally domesticated or hasn't been domesticated for many generations then I'd have to say no. Don't go blaming a snake, rat, rabbit, mouse etc. for biting you or others.

I remember being attacked by my rabbits when I had them. One of them was territorial and would actually pounce with claws outstretched as well as grunt.
