I went to Radio Shack today to buy some 120V 3" case fans for my computer. Well, all the 120V fans are 1-1/2" thick. My case will only hold 1" thick fans in the holders. I think, "bummer, now I have to get it online".

Guess what? I can't find a single 1" thick 120V 3" fan online either!

They did this on purpose just to stop me. :|

probably if you check out plycon.com, 2cooltek.com, and 3dcool.com you should be able to find a 12V case fan to your liking, I don't know about a 120V one tho... ;P
good luck!

"...and in here, we've got the combined computer and wind tunnel" *opens door, sound of tornado in background* "AS YOU CAN SEE, THE 120 VOLT FAN IS QUITE POWERFUL..."

Holy Sh|t!

I was browsing through the McMaster Carr catalog at work today looking for a relay, and there they were! 80mm and 120mm 120V fans that are 1" thick! Needless to say, I ordered 3 fans immediately. Woohoo!

Kinda pricey though, ~$20 each.

Oh, they also have 10" fans. Muhaha! The 10 incher flows something like 1200 cfm. he he. To bad I can't find a spot for it on my case.

Got all three of them installed and working. The 1" thick fans are a little lacking in the CFM department, but they fit and they work. They put out about the same as a 12V.

At the back of the case I had room for a normal 3" dia. X 1-1/2" thick 120V fan that blows 38CFM. That thing works GOOD. I wish I could put two of those in the front too.

In a nutshell:

Good
-Anywhere from 1/2 to 1/4 of the noise.
-1" thick fans produce the same or better CFM than comparable 12V model. 1-1/2" thick fans move A LOT more air than 12V ones.
-No problems with AC "interference" although I was careful to route the wires away from everything and I used an old extension chord so the insulation was nice and thick. No wires or fans are any closer than 1" from any computer components.
-Less draw on my powersupply.
-Now I can watch movies at less than MAX VOLUME!

Bad
-More difficult to have fans turn on with computer. You would have to install a relay if you don't have a switched outlet on the back of your P.S.
-120V models are not exactly the same size as their 12V cousins. The two holders in the front of my Addtronics 7896 were a little unhappy accomodating the new fans but they do fit with a little patience.
