i have a Sunon 120mm , 108 CFM's fan.

it is suppose to be 45 dBa and @3,000 but it is so loud!!
i checked the RPM's and its sitting at 4688

tried it on two different MoBo's and the same speed.

what are my options ??

Your options seem rather clear:

1. Leave it- accept the noise level, the extra speed probably means increased output.

2. Adjust it- here's where things get tricky. Your system, budget and tastes come into play. Without more information it's hard to give a suggestion. Solutions range from a $.04 resistor to a $50 Rheo-bus.

3. Replace it- find a quieter unit.

what r Rheo-buses and baybuses ?

hmm a resistor hey

a way to turn it down, that could be good

i rememeber reading ages ago some way of downing the voltage it receives, ie some how reverse the molex so that it ends up getting 7 V (12-5) rather then 12

now where did i read how to do that ................

?

PCmods.com sells a popular Rheo-bus. The 7volt trick is described at 7volts.com and has been discussed several times on this forum. To see a simple baybus I made from Radio Shack parts visit my website at www.pdxpc.tk or click here. It was designed only to turn my fans on and off, not slow them down at all. Good luck.

be careful of lowering the voltage too far because a lot of 120mm fans have problems starting up at lower voltages. If you're going the resistor route then the equation is R = V/i

I have one of those Sunon's it has such a loud like whine to it. I replaced it with an adjustable Evermax, I can't hear that one over the other fans. Much, Much better:)

yeah ??
damn it i was tossing up between the Enermax and Sunon,
should have forked the extra cash out for the Enermax huh ??

its even quiet at full speed ??

It is quieter than the Sunon even at full speed, but at full speed I can hear it above the other fans. I run it about 60 to 70%, and it moves alot of air.

Its just in the front of my case, I made the fan hole bigger. I have the filter on one side and the finger guard on the inside.

Get a Panaflo; that'll solve the problem.;)
I've used 120mm Panaflo's - they are very quiet and still move a lot of air. The Sunon fans I've used tend to be fairly loud - even their 40mm fans put out a lot of noise for their size.

Since no one else has said it already, that is a very severe load for a motherboard's fan header. I wouldn't suggest plugging it into the motherboard unless you use one of the special adapters that draws power from the power supply and sends just the RPM signal to the motherboard. Like this one.

you mean the Sunon 120mm ???
it didnt get the RPM warning like other fans do at the place i go to....
its not suppose to run over 3,000 RPM's , but it appears to be ,which is the prob...
anyway i have used it with an adaptor too, no difference.

i am not using it now, its just sitting here gathering dust... :(

curious, whats the best fan for a blowhole ??

What I meant is that the Sunon pulls so much electrical current from your motherboard that you are likely to burn out the fan header.
