Yeah, I've got an update!

Went to my local BB this morning and they had about 10 drives! A number of them were the 8MB variety. They all rang up as $179 and no one knew what I was talking about when asking about them selling for $99 elsewhere. Finally, I went to the customer service desk and had them price match to CompUSA.... unfortunatly, CompUSA was out of stock, so no price match either! Arghghghghghg.....

Don't you hate it when your mouth is all ready for a sweet deal and all you get is sour grapes? ;)

Any other tactics you guys can think of?

Thanks,

Joe

I'll go in with my $99 raincheck (i got that with the $99 shelf tag they didn't pull) today and try to get a drive. Something is probably going to go wrong and I won't get it.
Wish me luck.

My local BB manager is an ass. He laughed in my face when I asked about pm'ing with compUSA cause the nearest one is 147 mi away. He said he would price match $10-15, but not the full amount I was going for. I asked my local office max and office depot, and neither of them pricematch with compUSA either. Bleh, I missed out of this deal and I could really use a 120 gig hd too (for my xbox). Oh well, maybe after the holidays I'll have enough to pay full price for one :disgust:

Thanks everyone for keeping me so up to date on this

That's sick. Charging people more than you paid? What? Oh wait, that's capitalism for you - the foundation that America was built on. D'oh! :D

Seriously, Fosuco, I may be able to hook you up with one drive at cost. I'll know more after this coming Saturday. Keep my ID handy and PM me in a few days. ;)

A recall? By whom? Maxtor? Or, Staples because they don't want to sell 'em at $89.99?

That does not indicate 8mb ..How do you know you have 8mb? They say the only sign is in the model # on the drive it self..Do you have that for post so I know befor I buy..Thanxs.....:)

P6Y3 is on the box a 2MB box and thats not the 8Mb sign ..so Maxtor says. They told me what to look for that there was only (1) thing that they have on record that tells them that its a 8mb drive and its on the drive it self under the model#.

If anyone who got a few of these drives and is willing to sell them at or around cost + shipping, drop me a pm. I'd greatly appreciate it. :D

Damn! I tried calling all the BB/CU stores in the New York City area.. they ALL do not have this in stock. AND they claim by the time they do the price will have changed. Was this in a printed ad somewhere? The reps told me that's the only way to get a raincheck at those prices. Wasted 2 hours calling here and there.. :(

I second the last guy. Anyone willing to sell one at/near cost email me directly. I'll even get FedEx or UPS to pick it up from you at my cost. Thanks.

Woohoo!! Just got back from the BB in Paramus, NJ - they had 3 of these left on the shelf all with the blue sticker on the front. Took one to the cashier with the Compusa ad. The girl there looked at the ad for about 5 sec, said ok, & did the PM... no manager, nothing bout the compusa rebates, no hassle at all :) So after the 10% off got it for $95. There's still two on the shelf if anybody can make it there tonight, goto register 12 if ya can the girl was very cooperative ;)

Drat. I didn't realize this was a pricematch! I showed up at BB last night and couldn't find any, then tonight they were buried in the 80GB section, but rang up at $180, so I left. I just checked my CompUSA ad from Sunday's paper and it doesn't have any Maxtor HDs anyhow. Maybe they have regional ads? I'm in Cleveland, OH.

Oh, well. I got the $10 SWEp2 PM at CC, and I only ever get in on four or five deals a year, so it wasn't my time!

Just scored another "P6Y3" drive in Huntsville AL for $99.99 - They almost pricematched my prior receipt for $89.99 (Holiday Coupon promotion) - damn!

Well, I can't believe it, but I actually got 2 of them. They're the 2MB L6Y3 models, but for $69.99 ea, I ain't complaining a bit!

The box does not say 8mb. It says 2mb on the label. But look for the code like what other's say. The code is P6Y3. You should get the 8mb ones through that box. I've got two with that code outside the box and scorde two 8mb ones. They seem to mass produce the drives in the early stages and forgot to make the retail packaging for it. :D
