This is definitely a price mistake (2MB or 8MB cache drives)! The BestBuy closest to me only had 2 120GB 2MB drives, but I still snatched them up. The 80GB drives right beside it were $139! I spoke to a sales person their and he said it was a really good price but it looked like a price mistake. He said the desciption of the drive in the computer didn't match what was on the shelf. He was cool about it though and said I'd better get one fast before they figure out what's going on. 🙂 240GB for under $200, that's a HOT deal, 8MB or not!

Amen! No rebate run arounds...just big fast drives out the door. These are perfect for storing an entire music library or videos, whatever. In fact, they are overkill.

I can't get over some of the statements on this thread, "if these had 8MB caches, it would be a hot deal...". Makes me think of listening to some guy spouting off about all the high performance gear that should be on a car to be really hot and then only to discover he drives some 14 year old POS Toyota Tercel.

Yeah, you may (key word is "may") see some performance improvements from 8MB cache drives if used in a server environment but if that is the focus, forget IDE drives and pull out the SCSI gear and build a real server. In a typical single user environment, the only way you will know there is a difference is to run benchmarks. In actual use, the performance delta would be indiscernible.

Thanks again for posting a great deal.

The drive I ordered with a PC web terminal inside a BB store has been shippepd. Just got mail from BB with UPS tracking number. The price is still $99 + tax + free shipping.

Just talked to the BB guy at Comstock Park, MI. They have 4 left and he said he was going to hold one for me and he thought he was going to get one so really 2 left. He said it was a great deal cause they were only $99 and that was less than the 80 gigs and they were that price because of CompUSA, then he wanted to know how I knew they were $99, LOL. Then he said OH! Wait a minute. Thats weird. They are $179 today. Well, just bring in the ad and i'll price match it for you. I dont know if BB corporate changed the prices today or if its a local thing. Thanks for this great deal! My 5.5Gig started making some weird noises so I figured this is the time to upgrade!

$99.99 - 10% = $89! $.74 per gig. What a deal!

EDIT: I just called the guy (sounds to be my age, 18 and is very cool) and asked him if the box had P6Y3 on the side and he said YES! Then he said just bring the ad in and ill hook you up man. Sounds like this is one guy who wants to make a sale! 😀

Has anyone succesfully pricematched the $99 at Bestbuy to CompUSA? I work at BestBuy and bought one of the 120 gig hdd for $99 yesterday. I plan on taking my reciept to CompUSA tomorrow to get a pricematch. Last time I went to CompUSA, the rebate forms were located on a wall on the store and didn't print out like they do at BestBuy. \

EDIT::

Just got back from CompUSA and got the pricematch for $99!!!!!!!!!!!!

wooooooooooohooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

😀

$99.99+tax ~$108-$30-$30= $48 for a 7200 RPM 120 GIG HDD!!!!!!!!

Thanks Anandtech Hot Deals Forum 😀

I just came back from Staples in San Diego and pricematched my Best Buy receipt to one of their drives. I almost got an 8mb cache drive but the lady figured out that there were two different drives. I was like "I dunno what's the difference. All I know is that they're 7200 rpm and 120gigs!". hahaha. I got it for around 99 bucks or so after tax.

Yep!

No stores in KC except those way up north have this drive anymore.

The price is $180.00 in all of KC today also, but they will pricematch to compusa's 99.00 price, but the drive wont be in until Friday I was told at the Metcalf south BestBuy.

Poop.

So if I order this online and I don't get the price adjustment, can I still cancel it after I get confirmation email ?
Thanks for help!

northland, yea I assume.

I am from Larryville and anything not Shawnee, OP, Olathe, or lenexa is scary and wild to me.

location: Atlanta, Georgia

BB, 10:03 AM /// dust on the shelves... Shelftag still there ... $99! ... pick_item... whoaaaa

Compusa: 10:15 /// PM with BB ShelfTag ... customer service, then, clerk, then manager... deal !

10:29: leaving CompUSA with 120 Maxtor hdd, at $99.

Bad part is that the manager told me that he cannot give me the rebates tough... 🙂
i have the receit... what should i do ? take the web coupon and still send it ?

Dont try and order from online.....
I just did they did not give the price adjustment.
I called to cancel and they said the order has gone to far to cancel.

So I will have to wait and return it once they arrive.

Thanks Slag - yes, "up north" is the wild wild west here in KC. I called up the BB Website CSR and they gave me a case number to adjust the price of the two drives I ordered online for in-store pickup to the NEW order that will ship directly to me.

That is:

1. Ordered two drives online for $179.99 each last night - 11/24/02 11PM.
2. Received order confirmation that the price will be adjusted to $99.99 each five minutes later.
3. Received followup email message that said items were not available for in-store pickup 6 hours later.
4. Called BB Website CSR to see what could be done. She cancelled in-store pickup order and said to re-order online for shipping to me directly from the warehouse. As soon as I get the new order for direct ship, then call her back up and get a price adjustment - be sure to have the original order and the new order info.
5. Called up the BB Website CSR and she gave me a case number for the credit department to adjust my credit card charges from $179.99 each to $99.99 each when the drives ship. I'll believe it when I have the drives in my hands with the correct credit card charges! 🙂

Whew! If this works, it WILL be an early Holiday Miracle! If it turns out to be a 8MB version, then I'm in heaven...

BeastBuy, I picked up a total of 4 and all have been 2mb versions.

I just saw this on FW.

I think BB raised the price back up across the board. I called BB here in Chicago where I bought the last one yesterday at $99.99 to see if they had another in stock today (supposedly there was to be another waiting for me today but of course there was not). Anyway, I was told that the corporate office raised the price back up to $179.99 and it is chain-wide, not just locally. I called another store just to check if this was true and was given the same story, so maybe this deal is DEAD YMMV locally but don't delay.
Congrats to those who got 'em. This was an awesome find!

Anyone having the sale deal? I tried to go to Staples this morning right at 7 just so they wouldn't call to verify.

I only opened one of the two that I got, and it was a 8MB version.. no matter though, it went straight into my tivo!

Drats! I read through my pick-up order E-mail from Best Buy and the item was listed as being "out of stock" at my local store. I took a quick drive over there - and sure enough, nothing but dust on the shelves. Since I do have the order in the Best Buy system for $99.##, I think I'll choose the option to have one shipped to my house.

Well I called BB.com and the CS told me that there is no adjustment available.

The store I went to yesterday around 12pm the drive rang up at $179.99 , I checked twice to me sure too.

Dang this sucks because I know there is an 8mb version at that store just sitting there.
