you can use a program like rage3d to check what the core / mem spees are and see if they are what a pro is supposed to be

Clock Speeds
380/340 for a Pro
324/290 for a non pro

If the 313 of the memory is it's speed 3.13ns then it's a non pro card.
 
What you may need is a 3rd party program to check the clockspeeds of the video card.

One that comes to mind is Rage3dTweak from Rage3D or even PowerStrip.

But from the looks of it, it may be an OEM 9800 NP. That's from the info you gave after you looked up the S/N.

To be absolutely sure to check the clock speeds of the card.
 
Sounds like a Non Pro, check the clock speed to be sure.

Retial 9800nps can be had new for $199, without any reabates.
 
Hi,

To tell if your ATI card is a BBA(Built By ATI) or PBA(Power By ATI) and/or is a Pro or NON-Pro, find your card P/N number which is located on a sticker on the back of the card. With that, you can do use these sites found on ATI website:

If you need to know whether an ATI card is "Built By ATI" or "Power By ATI", then goto this site:

Also, if you trying to figure out if your card is a Pro or NON-Pro, try this site out:
P/N Database

From the look of your PN, it's not a BBA but rather a PBA because it contains an alpha numberic letter(the "A")

i used to sell

ATI non pro 9800 compaq/HP cards on ebay.


granted the cards i was selling were an early batch that had 2.8 ns ram and they looked exactly like pros. but they were not pros based on bios and part numbers. HP / compaq does not sell 9800 pros with any of their systems. i do not believe dell does either


also the ATI listing thing does not show if its a pro or not. i had some compaq/hp 9700 pros before, and if you look them up it'll say 9700, but the clock speeds are 9700 pro speeds.

compaq / hp 9700/9800 cards are all BBA. the difference even if it looks just like any other card that is red, is that only BBA cards have a red ATI sticker on the PCB as well as fan.

Are you the "go to guy" for good deals on video cards🙂? I don't know you personally of course, but you seem like a knowledgeable and reputable guy...maybe you could score a good deal for us Anandtech board members if we buy "bulk" quantities of ATI cards from you?

Or are you "out of the business" of selling video cards?

i only do it occasionally when i get stuff from my fathers distributor liquidation friend. they have nothing now again. besides we arent allowed to do dealer and bulk deal type things. i mostly do it on ebay.

i know a lot about the industry just having grown up with it, watching my dad and his business friends etc do their thing the last few years i know how a lot of things work i guess.
 
it's the ati driver's alot of people with 9700 non pro shows in display properties as 9700 pro same with 9800 non pro's because it's most likely the exact same card as the 9800 pro versions except the clocks and mems are a bit slower.

you are lucky to get the 9800 non pro! that card is the best bang for you buck you can get price/performance,

in canada I was going to buy the 9800 non pro for $310 canadian dollar but they stop selling them so I bought the more expensive 9800 pro for $500 can.

the performance between the 2 cards are only about 5-10 % difference ,although I'm very happy with my purchase but I don't think mine is worth the extra $ 200 over yours.

If your into overclocking You should be able to easily overclock to pro speeds and beyond .Just make sure you have proper cooling and hopefully you got the samsung rams
I heard those rams are the best overclockers for 9800non pro but are rare to find
 
Hi, DorkBoy. I recently purchased a machine from Dell and ordered the ATI 9800 card from them. We most likely have the exact same cards.

Here is what I know, from using Rage3D as well as reading a bit...

The card has 8 pipelines enabled but has 9800 non-pro clockspeeds. It is an ATI 9800 Non-Pro -- I was worried for a while that it was a 9800 SE, thank the lords that it isn't. Since my card has Samsung memory (3.3 ns), it can be flashed to a 9800 PRO. The 9800 non-pro card showed up in my WinXP Device Manager as a 9800 PRO.

I went to http://www.digitalsynapses.com/articles/9800npflash/ and followed their instructions to flash me card to the PRO speeds. It is pretty simple, as long as you have a floppy disk drive.

I use the 3.9 Cat drivers, my machine is a 3.2 GHz P4 with 1 GB of Crucial 2700 ram. My score on Aquamark3 went from a 38,000 (before the flash) to 44,000 (after the flash). I don't know anything about the Omega drivers people talk about, they may affect the scores too.

DorkBoy, looks like you have a 9800 PRO to me. However, I believe WinXP recognized both the 9800 non-pro and the pro as "ATI Radeon 9800 PRO" in the hardware manager listing, so don't take that as a factual description.

The clock speeds usually are slightly under the posted speeds. I believe my speeds are almost exactly the same as your speeds. I am not a hardware expert, though, so I could be potentially 99% wrong.

Looks like you either got a pro or a non-pro with the bios flashed to a pro. I would check your memory chips id number. Find out what their speed rated for. Should have a
long string of numbers and letters. Like K4D26323RA-GC24 if it's Samsung you can go to their site and search with that string of numbers.
Use the part number search

The 24 part of GC24 is the rated speed in this case 2.4ns which is 416.67Mhz.

Looks like my DDR is the second from the fastest DDR Samsung RAM listed for my part no., but if Max Freq. shows only 350MHz and the ATI Pro goes to 380MHZ is that normal.
 
You got a pro then since your memory is rated 350Mhz and the Pro has a clock speed of 340Mhz. The 380Mhz is your cores speed not the memory.
