Oh good lord. We've got a thread with 90+ posts going and someone thinks that 20 hour old news hasn't been posted on THIS message board yet?

He's highlighting the extent of the tragedy/casualties and the fact that his family came close to being caught in the disaster. Show some restraint and have some sympathy, shouting r"REPOST!!!" isn't going to make the post go away

I agree, as I've said a few times now, that I should have used the search feature to make sure this hadn't been posted before. However the Off-Topic board has one of the highest turnover rates and posts quickly get buried. Despite what you may think I actually did try to look to see if something had been posted about this before. Usually I'm not the kind of person who just posts without looking. after looking through about 5 pages of posts I stopped and posted. So true I should have looked harder but at the same time given the magnitude of the story and the tragedy behind it I would have expected a little more leniency.

I heard "christian children's fund" is a scam. And if they really DO give money to those kids, they take a huge chunk of your donation.

Just out of curiosity, do they give money to Christian kids only? If so that region has barely any.

BTW it's not a scam. True not all of your money goes for the kid, but it does help kids out. They do need to pay for their employees, advertisements, etc. I wonder how much the employees get paid. That would be an interesting comparision.

This is going to turn out to be one of the worst natural disasters in our lifetimes probably. I have family in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, but luckily that is quite far inland and Malaysia seems to have escaped the majority of the disaster suffered by other countries. The death toll seems to be rising about 1 or 2 thousand ever few hours!
Nah.

1. They give 80% to the child. 20% for administration. This is said upfront, and all their reports, numerous watchdog groups and a billion other people concur. It ain't perfect, but it is SWELL compared to the rest.

2. What a lot of people don;t know about them is that they only focus on developmental nations. THose commercials aren't BS for the most part. THey actually go to the cesspools of the world. They do not go to developed nations. They go to the poorest of the poor, and fund the development of an economic and social system in its entirety...schools and other buildings, utilities, food, healthcare etc...

3. Basically, the money isn't enough for luxury. It is a minimal amount that keeps them alive and also build a community so that they can prosper.

I do it and don't brag about it. It is jsut something that I feel required to do. Helping people that I do out of care or love or whatever are things like habitat for humanity.

Sadly, since I moved back from Philadelphia, I got lazy. I called a chapter up to see if I could go for help, left a message, and never followed up:( I used to love helping with that in Phili.

Are these numbers estimated or confirmed deaths? If you recall, News media estimated over 10,000 deaths at the World Trade Towers in NYC in 911. That number was then confirmed to less than half of that. I'm just curious as to the accuracy of these numbers.

When Bam, Iran happend it took them 1-2 weeks to reach 30,000. It started off like this and then the deaths kept piling up.

It is now at 15,000 (cnn.com)
