~$1200 Gaming PC

I haven't been following hardware lately and haven't built a rig in 5 years. Time for something new! I'm definitely most confused about how to pick a good mobo/psu/memory for a build. Complete recommendation would be greatly appreciated!

1. Gaming -> Looking to max settings. need to be able to multi task as well ie. run game + word processing + surfing + music etc.

2. Looking to spend around $1200 CDN can spend a bit more if it makes a difference

3. Buying from Canada, if you can recommend cheap places that would be awesome as well. In the past I've purchased from http://canadacomputers.com/ http://tigerdirect.ca www.ncix.com < seems to be more expensive/cant pick up locally

4. No brand preference. looking to get the best proccessor/gpu for the money though. (i7 920 possible? 5870?)

5. Have monitor/keyboard/mouse/OS already

6. Looked at some other threads most not the same price range/locality, build guides on the site are outdated now.

7. some overclocking nothing crazy

8. 1920x1080

Thanks!

Asrock Xtreme 58
i7 920

5870
don't skimp on a cheap PSU - in the 650 range the Seasonic X 650 take the cake or the Corsair HX850

ncix will try to price match other online canadian retailers (and almost always will)...its an option as you are checking out. I find TD the most expensive of those three.

A 5870 will eat up 1/3 of your budget.

Anyways, if you don't plan on doing sli/crossfire...I'd go with something like:

Intel Core i5 750 Quad Core

Gigabyte P55-UD4P
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=42279

WD 1TB Black
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=31000

G.SKILL 2X2GB DDR3-1600 CL7-7-7-24 X2
http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=44261

Powercolor Radeon HD 4890 PCs 1GB 900MHZ
http://www.ncix.com/products/?...manufacture=PowerColor
OR
ATI 5850 (they are all based on reference model right now, and stock is low, so get what you can, or wait for available to come up and price to come down)
http://ncix.com/search/?categoryid=0&q=5850

That puts you at around $1100CAD with the mail in rebates, but its missing a case (personal choice). Might suggest an i7 860 instead of i5 750, but if you aren't doing any heavy threaded things (like video encoding, or rendering) it might not be worth it. And I'm always a fan of a intel x25 g2 ssd, see if you can't fit an 80gb in ur build.
