waste? If he loves his job, how can it be a waste?

a guy that "smart" should try to earn some money :)

besides, i'm sure he still thinks he's inferior to most people since he's not a virtuoso violinist or professional golfer.

asian parents, bleah :)
korean asian parent, double bleah ;)

-young <- inferior

According to a recent study sponge bob is immensely popular among young kids and gays.

What exactly is the college experience? To party and get laid? At 12 years old, he doesn't care. I can guarantee you that he actually enjoys school and learning... that the feeling of accomplishment he gets is what drives him forward, not because he NEEDS to go to school. He's already been through college... he's got a PhD if you didn't read the article, so he knows what it's like. I bet he was just as excited getting into medical school as other 12 year old would get over getting a bike.

Nah by the age of 21 he'll be burnt out and angry and sitting around in a depressed alcohol induced stupor.

hmm, thats a bold statement. how about this: I can guarentee you that you're not asian, apparently don't understand what its like to have asian parents, and probably never will. he may or may not like it, but I'm willing to bet that going to medical school was not his idea or choice.

next story, youngest student to drop out of med school....
Per the story he will probably do two years of pre-clinical work in med school followed by 4 years for his PhD (typical doctorate in the biological sciences averages 5 1/2 yrs). Considering the overlap between his med school classwork and doctoral requirements he will spend much of the next few years hitting the books and working in the lab . . . two activities I'm sure he relishes.

What I'm curious about is what happens to this kid when he's exposed to the typical a$$hole attending . . .

Doogie Howser, M.D....
That's MD, PhD . . . I wouldn't be surprised if they managed to squeeze a JD in so the kid will be well-rounded.

His parents need to watch him carefully, burnout is a serious concern.

I started taking college classes when I was 12 (not med school of course). I got my AS at 15 & was burned out at 16. When I quit I had been going for 13 terms straight with no terms off. I hated school, hated life, & had had enough.

If he can pull it off, though, more power to him.

And it's not a bold statement... i have read about prodigal kids in my adolescent classes. My prof was one himself, so he was particularly interested in the research.

The world extends beyong your egotistical circle. Just because your experience with your parents are like that, don't extend that to every asian parents. Whatever you may believe, you can't drill a kid to attend college at 7, get his PhD by age 12, and entering med school at 12. Every prodigal child are discovered accidentally... they'll be 2 years old, and pick up a book and quickly learn. They look at math and see it as plain as somebody looking at a picture. These things aren't drilled into you. And the number one reason why they keep learning at the pace they're learning, it's because they enjoy what they do.

1) he's 12
2) he's Asian

The chances of him actually wanting to be a doctor are slim.

The chances of a 12 year old asian kid completing college and moving on to medical school are slim also. This isnt a run-of-the-mill type of situation.

Theres this kid that lives in my hall that I swear cant be a day over 12.

The funny thing is, he gets more poon that me. His girl is hot, and at least 5 years older than him. He comes up to her boob, and shes short.

He knows how to rip a bong with the best of them. Amazing.
