Man, God forbid your mother was young when she had you. so the mother made some bad choices early on in life, it doesn't mean jack sh1t here and now.

Yea it does. The younger the mother, the less mature, and the worse the parenting skills, generally.

As evident from the details of her son's behavior problems in the article.

Agreed. I would appear that she is utilizing the police to make up for her lack of parenting... If you ask me, that's a slippery slope. Once kids start hanging around other bad kids, there's a snowball effect. Punishing a kid that doesn't do what he/she is told is one thing. Calling someone else to punish them only lessens their respect for you and decreases their chances of taking responsibility for their actions.

Reminds me of the lady who called 911 to have the police deal with her kid, and the operator asked if she wanted them to shoot her. 😀

What a waste of taxpayers money. I am sure the police have better things to do... no?

If she had really wanted to teach that kid a lesson, she could take taken it back and given it to a kid on the street, making him watch. And on Xmas morning... he could have a lecture.

Silly parents!!!!

I agree.

this would have been far more efective. but having him arrested is not going to work. he already has a past with hitting the police.

watching her give the toy away to someone for opening it would defentaly work well.

Um... yes it does as she is continuing to make very bad choices. Why the hell did she call the police?? Not mature enough to deal with a disobedient son?? Instead of using the police to solve this situation she should have used a leather belt and a store return receipt. THAT would have had a greater impact on the kid imho.

then the kid would have went to the police for child abuse.

I don't know, I see a beating in store for the kid who gets his GBA...

If she can't find out how to control her son, the state isn't going to be able to do it for her.

You don't go to jail to learn how to become a better member of society, and it sounds like that's eventually where he will end up.

It implies that she had fewer resources (experience, support, financial) to raise her child with. I'm not arguing that she cares about her son any less than another mother, and I'm certain there are instances in which a young mothers raises her child better than an older [mature?] one. I'm claiming that because she became a mother at such a young age, there's a strong likelihood her son did not receive all of the advantages he would've had otherwise, which adversely affected his development.

The mother plans to have her son placed with the state Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia at his court appearance, the Herald reported.

Merry F-ing Christmas ya little delinquent!

waste? this MIGHT actually help, maybe there's only a 1% chance the kid will learn anything. I was at a Best Buy for Black Friday, we had FOUR police parked outside from 3AM till 5:30AM, now that's a waste of tax payers money if you ask me...

you actually think anything else was going on at that moment? BTW, many businesses hire out officers and pay them good money to basically be security overnight or, in the case of best buy, during big sales. Its a deterrent.

I'd say it has more to do with the fact that she is a single mother.

I have a feeling the 12 year old in the story will be the first "daddy" in that family in serveral generations. 😉

I agree completely with this. Reminds me of all those parents on Ricky Lake and other shows with their "out of control" teens who simply "don't know what to do."

Calling the police just calls attention to the fact that the mother has no idea what she's doing and that she's no longer even trying to control her kid, which is just gonna lead him to believe that he doesn't have to listen to a word she says. She just nullified her own authority.
