does anyone know how this charger compares to the MAHA204? does this charger have a "conditoin" function (where it drains the battery completely, then charges it)?

Over-discharging (deep discharging) or reverse charging damages the battery characteristics according to the panasonic's NiMH manual. so I don't like Maha

I received mine today. They only sent 2000 mAh, not the 2250's. But still a good deal.

The instructions say "Mircroprocessor Controlled - Batteries life well protect by -dV detection and timer protection." <-- Don't ya just love Engrish?
Also, it says, "Safety timer to prevent over charge"

It doesn't appear to have the MAHA's conditioning function.

Newer AA-compatible cameras like the Oly C-30x0Z, C-4040Z and C-2100UZ have added non-rechargeable lithium polymer CR-V3 batteries to their usable battery lists. A pair of CR-V3s replaces 4 AAs. Each CR-V3 has the size, general shape, voltage and connections of a pair of AAs joined side-by-side, but CR-V3s work only in AA-compatible cameras specifically designed for them. Older AA-compatible cameras like the Oly C-2020Z can't handle them,

Got mine today. It came with the silver Powerizer 2000mAh Ni-MH batteries, but the model is CH-V1000, not the CH-P1000 they have listed on their site. Anybody else get the same thing? I don't want to open the charger's packaging if it's a mistake so I can send it back.

I think the "V1000" and "P1000" are synonymous, the only other charge that looks even slightly similar is the "2000" model, which has temp. cutoff but since it plugs straight into the wall, doesn't have & can't use an automobile lighter adapter.

So the MAHA204 charger isn't good? I bought this about 2 years ago and the reviews i read said it was good. Anyone else have info on this? thanks, robert

Also, is the charger at Harbor the exact same one listed in this deal thread? I couldn't find the model number on it at Harbor, but it does look like the same one...and is this charger better than the MAHA204? thanks!!

The Harbor Freight charger is the same. It's clearly the best deal if you only want a charger, no batts., but these batts are very reasonably priced, might make as much sense to just buy a combo.

There's nothing wrong with the MAHA 204, a fancy, expensive charger might charge individual cells and monitor temp, handle more than just 4 AA/AAA, etc, but for the price the MAHA only has one thing the Vanson doesn't, a conditioner feature. Errr, and a second thing, it charges at slightly lower rate so it takes longer but somewhat gentler... If you're buying expensive PowerEX cells that might be more important but at $1/cell from batterspace who cares if their lifespan is slightly decreased.

Conditioning puts the batteries though a discharge cycle, so "that much" of the batteries' lifespan is reduced by the conditioning, but it is beneficial with batteries that are left sitting drained, as it may take a couple charges to get them holding (as near as possible per age of cell) their full capacity again. In that respect, the conditioning cycle is simply an easy way to quickly drain the cells before a second charge. Likewise, when you get these batteries they should also be fully charged and discharged (to 1V) before expecting anywhere near max capacity.

wow, that rayovac 15 minute charger looks pretty sweet. i read a few reviews online and it seems to perform exactly as advertised. i already have a maha charger, but if i didn't i'd definately go after the rayovac.

the way these IC3 batteries work is different than the regular NIMH .It's the batteries that control the charging process not the charger (In-Cell Charge Control).

there is no need for the discharging process with NI-MH they don't have the memory effect problem that the old NI-CD used to have.

Man I get a headache everytime I look at that thomasdistributing site. Such a poor layout, overwhelming amount of info, and cluttered, but besides the crappy website, I have to say the maha chargers do rock.

However. most people in the know believe that the microprocessor-controlled MAHA MH-C204F "SMART" CHARGER is the Cadillac of chargers. It sells for $21.95 (but without batteries).

If you need that many charged at once, maybe a good deal, but from the specs it appears to charge at (roughly) 220mAH, that's 10 hours to charge the AA batteries that come with it. IMHO, that's too long to wait but I suppose you could leave some in there trickling so you had another pair ready when you need them, IF their spec can be taken at face value "Each charging group is individual programmable in its function.", else you'd have to remove all the batts that're trickling just to charge a new set.

Slow or fast Charger, which one is good ? Does fast charger hurt batteries?
