12 ms to 16ms, is there that big a difference?

I just got in an argument with the sales guy at Compusmart because I wanted to see the difference between the 12 ms and the 16ms monitors. He told me that I would not be able to see any difference that they're so close that it's not a big deal. If that is the case I can't understand why companies are spending millions trying to get the response times down to 5 and 4 ms. Can the human eye see a difference with ghosting etc?

There probably isn't a difference because the claims of 12ms and 16ms are false, and only represent extremely best case scenarios. Average response time for most monitors are 25ms~. Some of the newer ones can finally manage an average response time of 15ms, such as the Viewsonic VP191B. Hell, I think that's the only monitor with an average below 16ms.

Yes. I had an 8ms and 4ms panel side by side and could visibly see the difference.

That said, not all panels or stated response times are equal.

okay fair enough. Not sure if I should ask this in a seperate thread, but I'll start here and see if one is required... I'm wondering specifically about the BenQ71G+ It states 8ms response times, how is it really in terms of image in fast gaming with something like BF2 or HL2?

I have a VP171B that I bought almost 3 years ago.. I think.. maybe it was two... anyways, This panel states 16ms response time and it is purdy!

No visible ghosting, smooht as a baby's butt. Side by side with ym step mom's 19" 25ms panel, that thing ghosts like a mofo and mine doesn't.

I had a princeton 17in LCD with a 25ms response. I was able to play HL2 just fine, no ghosting. I believe it completely depends on the brand and monitor.

I've been using an Apple Cinema Display HD 23" (clear enclosure), for the past two years. I think the response time was rated somewhere around 25ms. I've played just about every game one could think of on it, and have never noticed any ghosting. (and i'm very picky, *grin*)

Ditto that. The VP171B is an awesome panel.
