Just got this email from a representative from AU Optronics...

Hello David,

Sorry for the late reply and thanks for your interests in our 12 ms technology.
After checking with our business unit,
MNT with 12ms LCD panel should be in the Market around Jan 2004.

Best Regards,
Yawen Hsiao

Subject: AUO 12 ms response time TFT-LCD panel

Hi,

I'm very interested in your 12 ms response time LCD screen. I was
wondering if you could give me a time frame of when I should expect to
see LCDs being sold that use your new 12 ms response time panel. I'm
very much a hardware enthusiast and also an avid gamer, so the response
time of your panels makes them very attractive to me. 🙂

Thank you very much,

David Forrest

Looks like 1Q04 is going to be a good quarter. 😀

Now talk amongst yourselves. I'm getting all veklempt over the good news.

I thought the 12ms response time LCDs sort of cheated to get those times? I read somewhere about how they only would display a few hundred thousand colours instead of 16.7 million ones to achieve those times. Can anyone confirm this or not?

I know that's the case with the 16 ms response time LCDs, but I'm not certain about the 12 ms reponse time panels.

There isn't any news here. As GL pointed out, 12ms is cool but not all that great if you don't get full color range with it.

Supposedly they are engineered in such a way that your eyes don't detect the loss of color, though I cannot confirm this.
