12" laptops?

It will be used for web broswing and GPS only.
I hate Sony laptops so anything Sony is completely out.
I'm sick of giving dell my money, they keep having thebest deals.
Any one know of any other good companies with the 12" laptops.

Also price is a concern.

Only prob with the X60 is you get no optical drive with it. Tack on $200 for the dock, and $170 for a drive (retail).

Or if you don't mind used, you can probably get a X40 with dock and optical drive for the same or less than the X60 since it's brand new.

You could probably even find an X31 with everything for < $1k. Also a solid 12" notebook.

My previous employer was all Thinkpads when it came to the laptops....

Or you can go check out the Dell Latitude X1, at 2.5lb. I think they're around $1200, but they come with a 3 year warranty, which is worth maybe $200.

The X1 comes with a separate optical drive, but it makes a lot of sacrifices to get the low weight: ULV Pentium M around ~1.2GHz, slow 1.8" hard disk, small battery, etc.

bah, who needs an optical drive. I prefer to install my software through osmosis. 😉

seriously though, I didn't know that about the x60, but I guess you have to make sacrifices in weight somewhere. I like it though because it has a core duo in it unlike the Dell Latitude x1 that Ionizer86 mentioned (albeit the x60 is bigger and heavier).

since price is a concern...you're probably going to have to go with Dell

there's also a new Toshiba 12" model that you might want to check out, but it's going to be pricier.

I know thier has to be more then dell and IBM.
Ok I guess I iwll get go thought everyone web site.

I know acer and asus had some but I was hope someone had actually used one.

Asus will be expensive.
I don't think Acer has 12" notebooks, at least in the US.
You could go Averatec, but their quality is less than stellar.
Gateway's another option, good for the money; but quality is questionable and I've heard service is terrible.

They discontiniued the X1... so get it while supplies last.

WTF? 😕

See the header where it says "Graphics"? That means that that is the section describing the capabilities of the graphics card, not the display.

Ah, I see now.

I always bring it up when people mention a small light laptop, so here goes. Toshiba R100, they've got pentium Ms at 900-1.1Ghz and go from 500-800 on eBay.

Don't bother, get a D420, it's the X1s replacement. Or get a 720m on the inspiron side of things, both are much nicer then the underpowered X1.

I know you said no dells, but there is a $474 dollar off coupon code for the 710m.
You can get:

1.7 GHz Pentium M
1 GB RAM
12" screen
100 GB Hardrive
