I've never understood that (I'm assuming medical field). How can you function on a 24 hours shift, especially something so critical as life saving.

Longest I've worked is 19 hours and it flat out killed my body and soul to do it.

Often times places like that have a sleeping room so the people can get some sleep while things are slow.

I've done a few of those style lately too but nothing like 2005. Six straight weeks at 105+ hours per week. Averaged 15+ hours per day, 7 days a week for over 45 days without a day off. Now that damn near killed me (and my spirit).

I did get paid overtime (1.5 times regular rate) at that point in life so the money was good.

72 days straight, 6pm to 6am, with some 14-18 hr days once or twice a week thrown in along the way is the longest I've done. You'd think it's hard, but really once you get into it it's really just routine. Made a lot of money being a millwright.

No tips, you go and do it.

I did 11 months of 12x5 or 6 with all of it on my feet. If i remember correctly BoomerD was doing something like 14-16x6 or something like that.

It only sucks if you have to do it over and over.

Thank your lucky stars you know ahead of time it's a 12 hour shift. Last week I ended up working till 11:30pm because shit really hit the fan. Working a lot sucks... but it sucks worse when you're not expecting it.

I think it builds character, and love the feeling I get after working long hours and fixing some problem and getting something accomplished.

Nope, I don't. I work in a Cinema now, I used to do a sit down job, no more.

Wah

Just got back, worked for 7:30  win.

Wait a second. How do you know you've never worked 12 hours before? I thought you had memory problems? But don't worry... a few days from now, you'll have forgotten all about the torture of a 12 hour shift. :p

I dont understand this mentality.. A lot of the kids I worked with over the summer (retail job) would do everything they could to cut down the length of shifts and how long they worked. Yet at the same time they would bitch that they didn't get paid as much as they expected.

Don't people realize that hours worked is DIRECTLY related to income?:confused:

I almost prefer not to expect it. At least that way I'm not dreading it until it happens. Just sucks when I've got plans or homework to do and I end up working until 9-10 at night. Rectified that with an awesome class schedule this semester...so long as I stay ahead on my work.

I'm looking forward to my new job and 10 or 12 hour shifts. The fun thing with those is the shift differential pay, as well as all the time off that comes after doing a bunch of days straight of it. It's still a 40 hour week so if you cram more hours into the day, that means more time off. It's all win.

That's not how memory works.

I earn enough, I don't need any more.

Wait, doesn't this loser claim to have a degree in philosophy or something like that? Why are you working a minimum wage movie theatre job?

Tips for survival?

be a man... I worked about 12.5 hrs today and it was the first time I worked less than 15 since early June ... 7 days a week, no days off. Only about 45 more days till I get some time off

Long shifts are not nearly as impressive for some jobs, and bragging about them without mentioning the job is weak. I'd rather work 12 hour shifts in an emergency room with a sleeping station for slow times, than work 12 hours strait on the grill at a busy McDonald's with a dick supervisor timing my restroom breaks.

I've had jobs where some shifts could almost be slept through as long as I could be reached when needed.

I am more a fan of the 8 hour shifts.
I'd rather be doing shit I enjoy/like than at work so I get outta there as soon as I can.
Ideally I would not have to work at all. It is such a hassle.
