Thank your lucky stars you know ahead of time it's a 12 hour shift. Last week I ended up working till 11:30pm because shit really hit the fan. Working a lot sucks... but it sucks worse when you're not expecting it.

Very true, luckily we get our rota a week in advance and we generally stick to it.

What do you do?

I work at a Cinema...

Fapping at work is always an option.

Good call! Noted.

Will anyone notice if you are gone for a couple hours at a time? You could always take a break and watch a movie.

It depends where in the building I'm put, if I'm looking after the screens then I do sit and watch films! :awe: Last week I watched a few while working.

Twelve hour shifts are great as long as you get paid for twelve hours. On salary, not so good.

Could be worse - I know a few guys - son, neighbor, nephew - who are going to be working 16 hour shifts, 7 days a week, up to a few weeks.

Uhhh, 12 hour shifts are not great if you get paid for 12 hours. Assuming you're a full time employee who normally works 40 hours a week, then 4 of those hours are overtime and should be paid at time and a half (or better) - so, if you work 12, you should be getting paid for 14.
(Or in the case of my son, he works 16 a day and gets paid for 32)

edit: Hal, they're linesmen. With this hurricane, they've been going since 6 this morning.

<--- Minimum wage.

For those age 21+ (like myself) It's £5.93 = $9.70

Is that enough to live off of if you work full time?

In the US the federal minimum wage is $5.xx I think. But some states have higher minimum wages than that, like in California it's $8.xx. And I believe in the city of San Francisco it's $10.

Yeah you could live off that, I wouldn't want to but you could. Also there's housing benefit, tax credits etc etc that you would get.

what are you stressing over?

12 hour shifts aren't really noteworthy.

I'm not a huge fan of them because it typically requires me to eat breakfast/lunch/dinner at work and it's much harder to eat healthy there (versus at home), but it's not really stress-worthy.

12 hours stood up, not my favourite, just my longest shift to date...
