I should add this:
http://www.thenewamerican.com/history/american/574

Also, Harry Truman was probably the biggest war criminal of the 20th Century. The Japanese were willing to conditionally surrender. And the conditions under which they were willing to surrender would've made us better off. We wouldn't be wasting our money by having bases there if we had accepted their surrender offers.

Now that the forum idiot has posted.

/Salute to those men and women that remain.

Gotta love history revisionism and idiotic conspiracy theories!

Sad that this is the first post, though.

It certainly is especially given that a lot of us would likely not be here to post in a Pearl Harbor thread but for the fact that Harry Truman made the tough choice he had to make.

Attack on Pearl Harbor:
188 U.S. aircraft were destroyed, 2,402 personnel were killed and 1,282 were wounded.
Atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki:
90,000–166,000 killed in Hiroshima 60,000–80,000 killed in Nagasaki

Sad day.

No doubt about it, Japan suckered punched us on 12/7/1941, and had not our air craft carriers left Pearl Harbor for other missions a few days before, the Japanese would have been far harder to defeat.

But the thing not to be missed is that the USA had far wiser leaders back then, and once will beat the crap out of Japan, we let them up gently, and now they are US allies.

What good does it do to win a war if we lose the peace? Something we seem to lost sight of since. But as somewhat self taught student of that period of history, the USA got two huge lucky breaks, one at the battle of Midway and the other at Layte Gulf.
Had Admiral Kirita exploited his advantage, the push for Japan could have taken another year. Had one simple catapult not temporarily malfunctioned, the Japanese may have found the USA air craft carriers first at the battle of Midway.

I heard that the reason WW2 was fought was that so people would have the right to leak classified information. On TV they're always talking about how the greatest generation didn't keep any secrets from anyone but won the war through by beating every japanese and german soldier to death with their bare hands, no secret technology or troop movements involveds.

I just finished reading an excellent memoir of the Pacific war by a Marine private, E. B. Sledge With The Old Breed. Highly recommended-but almost unreadable in parts when he describes the hell they went through. I especially direct anarachist420 to that book to see if he will still spout his idiotic drivel after reading it.

A salute and thanks to all Allied Veterans on Pearl Harbor Day!! The scum who post constant anti-American comments should thank them too. After WW2 the USA as the sole nuclear power, was in a position where they could have completely dominated the world if they wanted. Instead, the USA rebuilt both Germany and Japan.

We should have only focused on the Pacific and ignored Hitler's declaration of war.

I somewhat agree....
"Japan attacked us and has begun taking over our territories in the Pacific, let us go occupy North Africa and Europe!"

I thought it was to protect the rights of ill-informed whiners like you.

im not sure which was more barbaric, roosevelt allowing pearl harbor, the japanese doing it, or truman dropping two atomic bombs on civilians. im inclined to say that last, it way outdid even 9/11
