12.41 problems

I am running a win2k machine with the MSI starforce 831, installed the new detonators and when I play games now.. after a while, it freezes up... I am also running winamp at the time and winamp never stops playing.. but game and computer freezes...

this has happened about everytime...

I don't know if its these new detonators or just my card since both are new... I can't restore the old drivers cause I lost the cd already.. and msi's webpage seem to have disappeared... can anyhelp me with getting the old drivers or just with this problem in general?

Is DirectX 8 installed?

To uninstall, just go to the Control Panel and select the Add/Remove category and find the drivers to uninstall. Then, install an older set like the 6.50's. You can get them by going here:

I had the same problem with my rig not so long ago with regards to the crashing of the computer, i even had winamp playing Anyway, I fixed this by upgrading my 4in1s to version 4.32 and changed my video drivers to 12.41. Also, i don't know if this affected it, but i switched back to AGP2X jsut to be sure. Try switching back to an older version of the detonators, you can find them at M3D Zone

Nope didn't seem to fix it.. I run an epox 8k7a, so via 4in1 wouldn't affect anything.. but I installed new drivers without agp anyways adn now it seems to crash sooner...

umm bad card? Memory? anything?

In the BIOS, there should be a setting for the AGP Driving Value. Try setting it to "EA" (default is usually "DA&quot. What this does is increase the AGP signal strength, and in some cases, will help aid in stability.

Note: Having ACPI installed can also cause crashes with games. Are all devices sharing the same IRQ? If so, disable ACPI and see if that works. Here's a good article on the subject:

Before I administered these changes, will just reformating and switching to win98SE fix all these problems? I've been complentating going back anyways

If you go back to Windows 98 SE... in the BIOS, set the "Plug and Play OS" option to "NO." This will override ACPI and set your devices up on seperate IRQ's.

Ok goign back to win98 didn't seem to help... This is annoying because why would I spend 150 on a video card if i can't even play games with it... What else could be wrong? should i check the seating of the card?

Demitre list your PC specs,then I will try and help,but the 12.41 drivers are fine for me,I`m using Win98 OS1 still,anyway you tried Bios tweaks like disable all video shadowing,disable system bios cacheable.

Try slower ram settings,and is your cooling ok?..Sometimes a quality PSU helps stabilty with Geforce cards.

AMD has recently released their own driver update pack which includes a new AGP driver for the 750 and 760 chipsets. This affects Win2K and Win9x. Try installing that and then reinstalling your detonator drivers. I've had good luck running the 12.40's from www.videocarddrivers.com. Get the AMD drivers here http://www.amd.com/products/cpg/bin/amddrvpk_120.exe
