I really wish i had this extra ram i feel so useless only being able to do 13 tasks :( I did have more running over night as most tasks used less memory then i guess some gained traction and used like ALL of the memory just about and we are right back to 13 right now. Guess 13 really is my lucky number.

If you want to load some extra tasks, asteroids at home is very light on ram. I’ve been using it at my “extra” project when I run out of ram on different hosts. I figure having a map of the asteroids floating around is probably on the plus side of human health :D

Would need convincing, my build is mostly used in my craft of healing/mending well at least the attempt as much as possible when not gaming. I should have my stimulus on the 13th so its not that much longer by Saturday at latest i will have the memory then i could open this up!

There is also world community grid (working on covid) and TN grid doing, but I don’t know how much ram they use

WCG varies based on the project, I think TN-Grid was fairly light on RAM for 10 threads.

Oh it looks like when i download and run the World Community Grid app, it replaces BOINC? It looks like it removed and installed this but it looks and functions the same as BOINC and even my work from Rosetta is in there. I set up 6 tasks for "Mapping Cancer Markers" and they are currently working. Thanks for the suggestion of WCG.

Loading up 81% of the cpu currently and with the TDDP of 105 and clocks of 3.84ghz in place for now till cooler is here, i am loading at 68cel and at 69% memory usage. I expect this to climb and if not i may slap more tasks but will see where things go.

I will be back going all in on BOINC and Rosetta the second i get that ram, just doing WCG cause its hardly tasking the ram and my computer can do a bit more then just sit here being useless idle. Not gonna commit to WCG but will run it till Saturday assuming my memory arrives by then. Rosetta still using tasks of course.

Prefer Rosetta and Folding@Home cause they are both currently handling that thing that shall not be named.

Well i finally did it unless i get some of those demanding tasks from Rosetta pushing 1gb+ per task i have officially loaded up 23 of my 24 threads on my 3900x. Not sure what sorcery is going on but fully loading it actually dropped my temps? My room about 78f. This 3900x keeps on getting better and better, its like a Billy Mays commercial with him saying" but wait there's more!

I believe this drop in power usage / heat is expected for the 3900x. As you add more cores, eventually AMD has to drop the power going to each core. This less power to each core slightly decreases thier speed, but puts them more in the “sweet spot” regarding the power / performance curve. See here:

Jeeper's bulletin #6:
"Today is under the sign of the javelin. Most teams put their cards on the table today and probably only the most hardened ones wait for the last 3 attempts. That would be brave, but risky. Because we know how fast tracks can get bumpy. Therefore the teams prepare for the last day of the City Run. Tomorrow the first decision of the year will be made here."

Yeah i am sure also the TDDP of 105w has much to do with it too but i kinda figured this may be the case. I think at the full default TDDP i should hit under a Dark Rock Pro 4 4ghz sustained on full load? Room getting a bit toasty but still i am only at 68cel .

Been researching various video cards for part of my 50/50 work and play build here and a bit conflicted. Given what i currently play, i see a 1650 super in my future.Anything else from my benchmark showed a clear bottleneck and that was with 40% BOINC running . Less cpu usage pulling less frames results in more cpu for BOINC/Rosetta too. Kind of looking balanced for my objective in this build.

I may have asked this before but given i see 70w of usage according to Ryzen Master on this 3900x and i got a fully loaded 1080ti working off a x570 mobo is there a chance a 1650 super could play nice with a 650w Seasonic Focus 650w and that second slot at 16x running at x4 off the chipset? Stock of that X570 gb Auros Master is simply forever oos it appears like.

I was shown a benchmark of a 2080ti losing 8% performance in such a slot so i figured i would put the 1080ti in the bottom slot of my X570 GB Auros Elite, remove the soundblaster AE-5 as i want usb phones anyways then stick the 1650 Super in the top spot. It would be main driver/gamer/second folder.

I do want the X570 GB Auros Master, new psu then eventually some Ampere cards but that is like end of year and well this shortage of motherboards is dampering any plans anyways. I couldn't replace this board now if i wanted to so yeah that is why i have returned to the 16x slot at 4x speed deal.

Forget the video card upgrade. That 1080TI will equal or beat that 1650 super I think. I would wait until get you can an 850 watt gold or better PSU AND something like a 2080TI, maybe after the new nvidia cards come out.

Oh i want to leave the 1080ti folding 24/7 as i game cause if you saw my BF1 pictures from a few pages back i had clear bottlenecking with 40% BOINC load. The frame rate i got with 40% BOINC was as low as 89fps and well at 50% BOINC i can assume its dropping closer to 80.

Based off that is the reason i wanna opt for a 1650 super. BF1 being my most demanding title it was getting like 71fps and upwards of like 100 fps in various videos so its a perfect drop in for my goals. I MAY opt for the PSU now but Seasonic only has a 1000w not oos and i really like to stick to this brand if possible .If i could hold off assuming my current will work with my proposed set up then yeah that would be nice.

I rather have a fresh 850w Gold with the purchase of the Ampere cards. I got a backlog of more demanding titles waiting for the upgrade.

I get the idea around a pentathlon and its 5 events, is this also following with 5 events? Do i do anything for this or do i leave my rig along, well minus the ram upgrade of course by Saturday. What event we on currently?

I did some brief reading as i do tons of it on ancient greece and anything Olympian god or titan based . I find it fascinating how we still do the Olympics, maybe one of the most ancient events still taking place today. Well sorta. Well here it is in spirit i would like to think. :)

On all of them, with the exception of Sprint of which the project and date have yet to be announced.

Cross Country hasn't started yet in the strict sense, but some of us are already computing for it in advance. (A.k.a. bunkering results.) Though as you saw in the prior discussion, Amicable Numbers is much worse than Rosetta with respect to RAM consumption.

Javelin Throw, with its special scheduling and scoring scheme, requires tight resource allocation. We have some people (see NumberFields section in Tony's Weekly Stats) who each set aside a certain fraction of their respective computers for a certain duration per "throw", and who coordinate via direct conversation.

As you can see, City Run has less than a day left. And in view of the circumstance that the Universe@home project may require quite a lot of time between when a user reports results and when the server can validate it to give credit, the practical end of this event is approaching very quick now indeed.

Do i do anything for this or do i leave my rig along, well minus the ram upgrade of course by Saturday.
Running Rosetta may be the best bet. You could run Amicable Numbers on the GPU, but that would leave very little RAM to run Rosetta in parallel.

I wonder what the Sprint project will be, notably if it will be a medical one. (There is a whole bunch of more number-theoretical projects out there though, maybe we'll get more number theory in the sprint too.)

Past Pentathlon disciplines and projects are listed in the Pentathlon archive, timeline tab.

Thanks for all that :)

Oh i found a perfect profile i think right down to the watt. I put the TTDP to 128 and it holds a constant 3.9ghz and on this stock cooler its not hitting over 77cel. My room as usual still warm about 75f but i can't imagine the thing hitting 80cel during the middle of the day. Think i found a keeper! I could prob almost forget even getting a aftermarket cooler for this thing. I love the rgb on that stock cooler and the noise is worth having that look. :)

I tried repeatedly to get 15 Rosetta processes and 1 amicable process running in 16GB with zram. I managed to fill up swap twice and cause the host to go non responsive. I’ve got one more trick to try in changing the compression to ZSTD, but I’m not sure how to do that just yet. Worst case I’ll Have to wait for my ram to arrive on Tuesday, then I’ll be able to move the 1080ti to amicable.

PSA from the organizers:
The hosting company of the Pentathlon website has scheduled a 1-hour downtime for later today. *If* the outage happens during the finish of City Run and start of Cross Country, SETI.Germany will acquire stats through a backup server and update the Pentathlon site afterwards.
BOINC Pentathlon's site said:
Due to network maintenance in our hosting provider's computing center, the Pentathlon website will be offline for up to 60 minutes between 18.00 UTC and 01.00 UTC. During this time, the statistics cannot be updated. If this happens to affect the final update for City Run and the initial update for Cross Country at 0.00 UTC, a backup server will fetch all the data and we will add them afterwards. However, as this requires manual database intervention, this might happen with a few hours delay. In another update fails, all credits will be counted automatically with the next successful update.

We should hold our Amicable bunkers until the network is back up. In the States, up to 60 minutes could be 2-3 hours. :)

Another outage is scheduled for Wednesday.
(source, German)

Today's 00:00 UTC stats fetch, as SG noted, *is* planned to happen on time, but with reduced or without redundancy, and without known way of notification of the public about its success.

Had a nice series of random crashes and restarts of my computer all day today, i am about sure it was do to LLC being to auto. My 7700k was a brat about needing it set to high so i did the same on the 3900x and its loading at 3.9-4.0 fully loaded at 1.26v. Seems stable but only time will tell. Figured if its got the right amount of juice my 3900x might even work a bit quicker then before? Seemed so stable till i put the full load on it. :D
