Why?
I'm buying a Barton 2500+ , 2x 256mb corsair xms pc2700 ram, and maxtor sata 80gb from someone that lives a few miles away off our FS/FT forums with no references so I need to make sure they work before i give him the cash!

Not as worryed about the ram or maxtor as they both have warranty i think... not sure on corsair's policy but i think they offer it.... but the barton is OEM to need to make sure it works


But really.... can a CPU not work if it boots up and has no physical damage?😕

It can not work without any physical damage. Download Prime95 and run it with 3dmark2k1 looping. This should be sufficient enough.

 
if it boots the cpu is ok

memory needs more testing as do motherboards. memory/motherboards can have flaky intermittent problems that are hard to find, but cpu's pretty much either work or don't in my experience
 
i had an Xp1900+ CPU die without any signs of physical damage to it. My uncle's PC had run for about 3 years with the same heatsink and the same thermal pad. Wouldn't boot up, I figured it was the mobo so I put his components into my PC and no boot. Finally used my CPU into his setup and it worked. The chip had no signs of damage and I was kinda surprised.
