Prices shows $129.00 but it is currently not a "GEEK SPECIAL" so 10% applies...

Just add CPU, RAM (Board Takes PC133 or DDR), and Hard Drive..

Geek Kit 433-1.1GHz Socket 370 MB Kit w/32MB Savage4 Video, ATX Case, 48X CD-ROM, 56K Modem, Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers, Floppy.

What is interesting is that their link to MSI shows a Board that has a Promise RAID Option but, geeks states theirs doesn't have it... Is the chip there already anyone know if it's hackable??

UPS Ground Shipping is $19.00 for me in Fl.

Well, the Geeks aren't usually wrong about the products that they sell. If the board has the option to have a RAID chip, and their's doesn't have that option, I'd say that the board doesn't have the chip on it, unless they specifically mention that it has an extra IDE controller.

<< its still a good deal
but shipping hit me up for $19
whats the deal with that
>>

There's a case in the deal... you can't expect a case to have less than $10 shipping. Not to mention all the other components you get. $19 is fair when Newegg charges $15 shipping for most of their cases by themselves.

I like this deal - better than it looks at first.

Decent MB - have all the rest of the parts looking for a home.

Thanks

This is a deal.

Does anyone know if the s3 video has 2000/xp drivers?

I know a couple of people wanting a cheap system.

Thanks.

From what I could find is that Win2K video drivers comes on the CD.

Win XP video driver is on the WinXP CD but I cannot confirm this.

Maybe there is someone out there who can confirm the XP driver part.

XP and W2K video drivers are not the same.

Looks like a cool start. Any thoughts on what is the best cpu to put in this setup?

this seems like a pretty good deal, but the Genica case they include is pretty poor quality. I know you can't expect Enlite/Antec/Lian Li quality for this price, but this Genica case is made of very thin metal that dents at the slightest touch. It's the kind of case that is probably dented in transit 99% of the time. I think the Geeks sell the case with power supply for $18 or something. I had to buy one for a friend who wanted the absolute cheapest case he could get, and wouldn't listen to my pleas to buy a $47 Enlite from NewEgg. I'm not dissuading anyone for pursuing this deal, but you should know what to expect.

Does anyone know the overclockability of this MB? Compgeek sells a Celeron 533@66Mhz for $42. If I can bundle this for free shipping, and OC it to ~800Mhz, its a great deal, as I need a CPU anyways.

Just got this kit and thought I would tell people of a couple of problems. The 48X CD drive is not very good. Maybe it is just this particular drive, but it has a terrible time reading different CDR disks. The case is the basic generic case that Geeks has been selling forever. This particular MSI mainboard is fairly large size and the SDRAM memory slots will interfere with all but the top 5 1/4 drive bay. So if you plan on using SDRAM (bargain hunters probably will), you will only be able to fit one CD Rom in the top slot. You can put another in the slots below, but it will stick out the front of the case probably about two inches, which would work but would look ugly as hell (kind of like the geeks who tape their glasses together!) Users of DDR will be able to use two of the three slots without encountering this problem.

The mainboard seems to be pretty good. I installed Windows 2000 with service pack two, a retail Celeron 800 ($49 at Newegg), a generic PC133 128MB SDRAM stick and a two year old 7200 rpm Maxtor. It works pretty darn good. The only problem I encountered is when I installed the included Lucent modem after installing W2K, the computer locked up and MSI led indicated "failed CPU." This almost caused me a heart attack, until I cleared the CMOS via the jumper and it worked again. It has been working since. In fact I ran the Quake loop all night and it worked fine.

For touch typist, the included keyboard is a disaster. This is because right next to the left shift key, they have inserted an extra non-standard key. So when you try to capitolize letter, you inadvertently hit this key (backslash) by mistake. Besides this, the keyboard has a nice touch. Non touch typists will probably like it.

The mouse doesn't have a scroll wheel, which kind of bothers me because this would have cost Geeks only about 50 cents more.

We bought about 5 of these cases in a mb/case/kb/mouse/floppy/speaker combo for $69. The case is cheap, not something you want to haul around for LAN parties, but fine if it just sits.
Seems like a good bang for the buck if you can build a system.
To compare -
Gateway w/ 17" monitor $630+
versus:
Geek $130+
rwm $20+ship
hard drive $60+
OS
Celeron 733 ~ $50+
Monitor ~ $100+
Total about $350, or $250 w/o monitor

This board has most of the things you need to overclock CPUs, including jumpers for forcing the bus speed to 100 or 133 and Vcore adjustments for the CPU. All this being said, the 533a that Geeks is selling for $42 isn't the best deal. You would be better off with the retail Celeron 800 that Newegg is selling for around $55 with shipping. Both will probably get the same end result, that is an 800 MHz computer and 100 MHz bus speed. With the Celeron 800 you always have the potential of using the 133 bus speed and getting 1064 MHz. The 533A might run at 1064, but my money would be on the 800.

Just tried and didn't have much success overclocking the 800 Celeron. One plus is the memory is running at 133 MHz while the system bus runs at 100.

One more thing about this mainboard is that it has four USB ports (1.1) and includes two extra USB connection brackets. The mainboard also has a standard USB A/B cable, which is a nice inclusion. This is included so you can do some USB to USB networking. This might come in handy for people without NIC cards who just want a simple network to transfer a few files. One of the included brackets has the B connection which is usually on USB devices.
