Watched an episode of Penn and Teller's "Bullsh!t" recently where they had tap water vs bottled water as their subject.

Funny as hell to see how, on average, bottled water had more impurities than tap. Not only that, but they did a "pepsi challenge" in LA with tap and bottled water. Tap won 70+% of the time.

BTW, did you know most bottled water is simply tap water? Yep.

I drink tap water here in Champaign, IL. It tastes fine. When I lived in Hilton Head, SC I had to drink bottled, as their water had a strong sulfar taste and smell to it.

The bottled water industry is one of the biggest scams ever.

Yes, but with a side note. I use a Brita filter on all the tap water I drink. Tastes great, and makes great coffee. :)

You may die, it depends on where you live.

I drink tap water, generally. Though I really like Water Joe, which is what I drink if drinking bottled water.

The best tap water I've ever had was in Lake Tahoe, NV. Anyways. My roommate refuses to drink the water I buy because "tap water is better for you" because it has strict regulations, whereas you don't know what's in bottled / purchased water.

i hate the way tap water tastes from my apt. I also happen to live about .8 miles from a sewage treatment plant, so I think I'll just play it safe and stick with poland spring for now.

When I wash dishes at my apartment, the dishes turn yellow.

No tap for me.

No. Our water is processed and filtered, so there's a large chlorine smell/taste to it. (I use a filter) In Memphis at my cousins and grandparents place I drink tap, because they have the best water in the U.S.

edit: the source is so pure, in fact, that they don't have to treat the water in any way. No chemicals, no chlorine, no flouride. They just filter it and send it out.
Silly Portlanders.;) Try the tap water in Salem, OR, Money Magazine said we have the best water as of 2000.:D Nothing beats our slow-sand filtration system; the amount of chemicals needed to clean the water is amazingly minute.

Despite the fact that Portland, OR has the best tap water in the country, no I don't drink from the tap.

Bottled or purified/filtered for me, I know I'm weird.

Very rarely by my choice. My fridge has a filter which does a great job so I do drink filtered tap water.

I think I sometimes drink Tap Water at restaurants, I can usually tell cuz it tases like chlorine. That's about the only time I ask for lemon...

Actually, who has the best water is purely subjective.

I've heard plenty of people (my relatives) say that Memphis has the best tap water in the U.S.

Google alone shows 5 different sources claiming to have the best tap water in the U.S.

Here in Sunnyvale, CA, I drink tap water because it doesn't taste that bad, and I don't want to waste money on bottled water. Besides, I have faith that my immune system can handle most of the bugs that may be in it...

I drink tap water but only if it comes from a well....city water is just plain not healthy. They put so many chemicals and flouride in it.

I live by chicago, the tap water here is fine. However my grandparents live in wisconsin and have well water that tastes horrible. I make sure whenever I go there I bring several gallons of Tap water from here to drink there.

I live in a relatively wealthy subdivision in which we recieve free well-water. I think the tap water here is the best water I've ever tasted. Bottle water is absolutely disgusting *ugh.*

Our tap water is high in sodium, so we use bottled water for now. I'm thinking of getting a reverse osmosis system, which is about the only way to remove sodium, since the cost has come down from $600 a few years ago to $200 now.

When I lived in Louisville the newspaper did a story on the quality of the city's tap water - they said you had about a 1 in 100 chance of catching some nasty disease from drinking the tap water... not surprising, considering the source (Ohio River)

Better have the water tested. You don't know if it has arsenic or mercury in high concentrations.
