The scrolling list of online student activities for Tuesday, April 20, lists a spring play rehearsal, a talk by "famous photographer, John Fielder" -- and "NO SCHOOL."

It's a tough day to be within those walls.

It was there, 11 years ago, that Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold embarked on a massacre -- shooting 12 classmates and a teacher dead and injuring 23 others before turning the gun on themselves.

Columbine High School was forever etched into the psyche of America.

Deaths - 15 (including the 2 perpetrators)
Injured - 24

it was 11 years ago, and a tragedy.

if it was such a tragedy, and you care about it... go create your own thread. In fact, you probably should have done it on March 24 when it began... IF you cared so much about it.. which you dont.

go threadcrap somewhere else. noone gives a shit about yugoslavia.

I do, but thats probably cuz I was there, watching it happen. Not safe and sound here in the States underneath someone elses protection. For reference, there is a world outside your bedroom, though I find it unlikely you will ever see it.

As for Columbine: This was a symptom of a larger problem with teenage issues, none of which have since been corrected in my opinion. Though I will concede many studies have been done and lots of info gathered.

your thread title leads me to believe that we can post anything that happened on that date.

11 years ago on that date you were prolly still eating waaamburgers in the back of a waaambulamps

Actually no it wasn't. It had to do with extreme personality issues. All the nonsense about them being wierdo loners who were constantly picked on and listened to dangerous music turned out to be absolute bullshit.

They were just two fucked in the head kids who found each other and decided to fuck the world. I read one article that pointed out it was actually "better" they did what they did so young because they were so bad at it. Their entire plan was to blow up the school and shoot anyone trying to flee. They just sucked at bomb making and went to plan b.

The one kid a was an extreme narcissist and the other was antisocial (if I remember correctly). There is a ton of great articles that came out last year at the 10 year mark that talks about how shitty the media was in reporting everything and how a ton of guesses in order to make good news while the incident was occurring turned into baseless facts.

It's amazing how much BS there was about Columbine. The media eagerly gobbled up all sorts of sensationalistic crap (Trenchcoat Mafia, Marilyn Manson made them do it, violent video games made them do it, Satan worship made them do it, etc etc etc) without bothering to find out what actually happened.

This. I think the saddest part of Columbine was all the scapegoating that went on in the aftermath. What got blamed? Violent video games, Marilyn Manson, goth culture, and internet use.

Marylin Manson was asked in an interview what he would say to Klebold and Harris. He told them he "wouldn't say a single word to them. I would listen to what they have to say, and that's what no one did."

So far, he's the only one who's nailed the root cause of the problem. You can implement all the anti-bullying programs you want. You can ban guns, violent video games and music, you can limit their internet use. You can do all that but it doesn't change the fact that both young men were vary sick in the head. Millions of kids are bullied each year but only a vary small minority kill themselves, and far fewer go postal. They received no mental health care to my knowledge. People, especially working in institutions like schools, need to be made aware of possible mental issues. It's not as if there weren't clear warning signs. You can't absolve the shooters of course, but they needed help and nobody gave it to them, simply because nobody knew it existed.
