Howard Shore is awesome! He should have won last year for Best Original Score as well, but I guess two out of three ain't bad. He's still not quite up there with John Williams, but he's great anyway.

Agreed. Take away the special effects, and LOTR is nothing. Definatly didn't deserve best director imo.

well its competition was rather shoddy.... supposedly artsy films that are good because studios say they are like mystic river etc.

rotk was kewl thuogh, cept for the whole undead bit which seemed like a cop out.

He could not have won. There is a rule that states no common theme may win in two consecutive years. Since the original was 2 years ago, Shore was eligible this time.

Those of you who don't like it, think of it this way. The Academy threw a bone to all the nerds out there, and next year there won't be a fantasy film nominated for best picture, much less anything beyond best makeup or sound or something.

ROTK, in terms of storyline, acting, and cinematography, is an amazing movie and one of the best I have seen. But I am surprised the Academy gave it 11 awards. Usually it ignores fantasy films.

Your preference for a movie does not define its quality.

it is in the books though. Actually I think in the book the undead stay around longer to the black gates

actually i think u think wrong. the undead dont even really fight in the books. they help aragorn defeat the ships attacking the coastal cities and then leave. from the coastal cities he recruits an army of real men and sails up the river. but all of that isnt even spelled out, only implied. as in, the undead dont even actually fight in the book, u just have to assume that they do, and they certainly dont fight at pelennor. this memory is from a very long time ago though so i could be wrong but i think u r wrong and the whole undead thing in the movie WAS a big copout for a somewhat disappointing battle of pelennor fields (charge of the rohirrim was awesome).
