discount auction would be my choice, he has 6800 ratings, while the other only has like a few hundred. and yes, a lot of ppl on here have bought off of ebay and they are 11.5

chips vary from dealer to dealer. Many will advertise 11.5g when they really are maybe 6-8g. While others will have heavier chips that actually are 11.5g. I've looked a lot of ebay and I find they're overpriced a bit. So far the better deals i've seen came from www.5stardeal.com. Their shipping is not the crappy ebay kind, and there's a 10% off coupon on their site that helps a bit.

edit: btw i was looking on the ebay you linked and they advertise that many CLAY chips for only 60$? It is def NOT clay. It's more likely a composite material with a metal insert that gives it it's weight.

here's some info on chips, http://homepokertourney.com/chips.htm

right, ive seen the 5stardeal.com place before, and i was originally planning on buying there, but their sets there are really quite expensive...

such as, on ebay, there are 500 chip sets going for 40 + 20 some odd shipping, so thats pretty hard to beat...

whats even better... i guess.. is since i live near pomona i could just drive to discount-auction and pay there "$15 call service" which *coiuld* save a litte.

what do you guys think?

another point.. ive been reading a lot of the auctions and people seem to keep bashing each other about how other people's chips are low quality and all tht BS, but in the meantime it is confusing me

so when they say "metal insert" is that actually what casion's use, or do casino's use pure clay?

next, wtf is ABS ("synthetic clay") compared to "true clay" - (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=63759&item=6110741470&rd=1)

*confused*

plz use edit so u dont unfairly bump your thread for no good reason.

i'm sure u could find some better deals on ebay than on some website, it's just a personal thing that i try to avoid ebay if possible cuz i just don't like a lot of the people on there (i esp hate people that charge you if you come to pickup an item, bastards).

from what i kno, casinos use real clay chips, not metal inserts. i don't kno much about the 13.5g chips, although i've seen them on some sites.

Since when does anyone care about bumping in OT?

Noone uses pure clay anymore, but there are two very different grades of plastic out there. The ones you see on ebay are 11.9g chips, but they are high impact plastic that contain a metal "coin" in them to give them weight. They're still VERY nice chips - but these are NOT what the casino uses.

"Clay" chips are really a specialized type of plastic, that feels and sounds like clay. They're much more expensive - your not getting 500 of these for $100.

those chips have metal inserts. the real casino chips are made of clay. i cracked one open last nite as a matter of fact. i have bought from these online resellers and have been very happy with the products i have received. i usually find a reseller that lets me configure my own chip colors. we usually just play with 2 colors and the other colors would just make it more confusing.

could be expensive for a box of that size, also depends on how it is sent....prices of USPS shipping has gone up recently and if the box is heavy and big enough then it is easy to imagine a $30 shipping charge especially if they are taking on for other fees such as running the auction and packing materials.

I saw these, they look even better, at lease the ones with TWO colours on the same chip. they look even more like the real thing.
