What name should the teams have for the 10th Annual Holiday Season Race?

  • Festivus vs. RestofUs

  • Panthers vs. Titans

  • Computational predictors vs. The molecular mechanics

  • Decade folders vs 10-year-crunchers

Results are only viewable after voting.
Well, well, who is the mystery voter??
11 votes but only 10 registered to race........ 😕 :sneaky:

Seems someone else has broken the 2nd deadlock anyway.

I'm draining off BOINC of WUs, maybe this year I'll get crunching before the race starts!

OK, I voted to break the tie. I almost voted for "Decade folders vs 10-year-crunchers", but that would only have made a 3-way tie! 😱
Lol, 😀

As far as I can see there are 12 votes and 12 racers ...
Let us recruit some more racers! We should be at least 10 in each team, IMHO...

I'll join in but like MarkFW, I'm retired now too so I won't be purchasing new hardware like in the past. 😱

Welcome to the race biodoc, & don't worry about rig numbers/upgrades, just run what you brung 🙂.
And btw you're fleet is still way ahead of mine 😉.

Ok you experienced FOLDERs, can you explain something to a less experienced feller?

Looking at the TeAm's top 5 members, I see no consistency in the scores. I took the total score and divided by the total results returned, to get points per workunit. Here are the unusual results:

Rank ppWU
1 4156
2 3579
3 19,398
4 10,355
5 35,452

I'd like to know the secret to getting your completed tasks to count for almost 9 times more points than what the top two on the team are getting???

I don't know the trick but make sure you get a Passkey. That will help increase your PPD. You also get extra for a fast return of the WU and there used to be BIG ADV which were work units that were sent only to machines with 16 cpu's or more, the last I knew of. They got a bonus of 50%. Don't know what today's BIG ADV specs are or if they still do them but you may want to look into that.
You may have to manually add slots for more cores, both CPU and GPU if they are not automagically added.
Please excuse my bad spelling and grammar as the Thanksgiving spirits may be getting to me.

You also have to take into account CPU vs GPU work units. GPU work units are usually worth more. Also, older work units were worth less individually.

I have been doing this for many years, At first I had 18 boxes folding and was happy to get 200-300k PPD total. Last fall, I had 5 boxes doing 1.5 million ppd. Now I have one box doing 320k ppd. Its all changing every day.

Right now it's all about GPU folding, specifically Nvidia for best ppd. The wu you get is random so ppd/wu will vary. My GTX980 @ 1.5 on it's own gets 350k average, with the best wu getting over 400k.

I don't have much to add. The guys who issue the work pretty much dictate the cores used and credits per. If you have 24 or more cpu's you may still get a bigadv. No more are being issued but I understand there may still be some out there to crunch. GPUs are the point of emphasis as theAnimal said.

like Mark said things change from day to day.

Lots of moving parts.

You can go to the folding forum and look around. You will find it is one of the more active forums in DC. There are a lot of folks involved in Folding and you will get a feel for the complexity of the project there.

With your rigs, you will do great.

Just jump in the deep end and swim............... 🙂

Hmm passkey...... will mine from last year still be valid??

Hey Tony, think you can pass me in this race? That's just ~7.6 million points 😉 😀.

Yeah your passkey should still be valid, if you know what it is.

I'm debating whether to keep the GPUs on BOINC, or commit to Folding for a month. I really want to get 250M in MW and 250M in POEM before Spring arrives, and it will be close even without a month-long diversion in Folding.

So honestly I don't know, but......I'm expecting at least 600,000 ppd on CPU only. How many days do I get? 😛

I have 3 24 core boxes turned off. When they dumped bigadv, it was not worth the electric bill for the points. If it comes back during the race, watch out !

OK, there are (if I counted correctly ... 😉 ) 15 racers. One or 3 or 5 more please?
We need that ... we want to make som e headway!
