Hey;

Buying a NAS drive, not sure if NAS drive with 10 GB port is required.

Max Usage:
4 htpc playing 4k movie from nas drive and 1 pc doing c drive back up.

There should be no stuttering/lags on the 4k stream.

Any articles or experience that can shed some light?

Thanks;

A quick websearch hints that 25Mbps second should suffice for one 4k stream, which means that the four TV's should be happy with just 100Mbps.

4k streams should be anywhere from 30-100mbps. I think 4k UHD bluray uncompressed can peak around 140mbps, but that's not constant bitrate.

10G shouldn't be needed unless you're doing ~8+ streams of very high bitrate 4k.

Netflix 4k is only around 15-25mbps. So it really just depends what quality 4k we're talking about. At netflix bitrates you could have 30+ 4k streams going and have room left with a 1gbps link.

You more likely to hit problems with the NAS disk controller or drives. Don't cheap out on these items.

That all being said, how long before consumer NAS units sport a 2.5/5.0Gbit/sec LAN connection? I'm looking forward to those.

Consumer? Once 10Gbe switching comes down to consumer level pricing. With more reliance on streaming the demand just isn't there.
