1090T now at 229.99. Why is it so low?

It is not dropping. It did drop. It was $295 at introduction, but was changed by AMD to $230 level couple days ago. The other top end Phenom's did got cuts too.

The guess is that AMD has something to introduce, perhaps called "1100T & Co". Intel uses similar "cut&replace" scheme occasionally.
 
Its either to give room for another model.

Or perphaps they are just getting ready for Sandy Bridge which will force intel to do it own price cuts.
 
A pity that AM3+ mobos aren't around. It would make me upgrade to the 1090T if I knew that I could slap in a bulldozer in 18 months and keep the same ram/mobo
 
Priced to Sell. Given how well the 1055 and 1090 Overclock, they have probably pooled together a bunch that will perform above the current 1090 and meet the strict standards required to Sell at a certain Speed.
 
I already got one these puppies on order from Amazon which includes a $15 instant rebate on an MSI 790FX-GD70 mobo plus another $20 MSI mail-in rebate. I was considering an Core I7 until I saw this. Sweet deal! Hurry up and ship the damn thing Amazon!

I gota 1055t and MB at microcenter about 2 weeks ago for $189. I overclocked that 1055t on air to 3.5ghz and it still idles at 29c on the stock coller on air, in fact I am running stock voltage, just a multipler bump and a FSB tweak.

I agree. That said, we don't know what Sandy Bridge is going to bring. I have a feeling that it's going to be very fast. AMD seems to struggle trying to compete at the high end lately. I would be very surprised to see Bulldozer outperform SB.
 
Bulldozer was meant to compete with Nehalem back in 2009. Two years delay has people skeptical that it will still be able to compete favorably with Sandy Bridge. I think the biggest factor will be how well Global Foundry's 32nm process turns out compared to Intel's already mature 32nm process (and soon to be 22nm).

Which power supply do you have? It is my understanding that the 1055t (125W) sees a huge wattage jump when overclocked.

Actually the first 45nm try of bulldozer was never released by AMD , some work made for that cpu was used to convert Phenom1 in Phenom2 , the 32nm Bulldozer is target to compete at least against Ivy Bridge,
AMD have a much slower architectural change , current K10 architecture ( that is nothing more than a 64 bit K8 architecture) started back to the Pentium III , Pentium4 era , and did all the work until today.

Bulldozer is starting today and will be much faster than Sandy Bridge ( exactly at the same way first Athlon was faster than PIII) , Bulldozer will be even with Ivy Bridge and will start loosing something later against the next architecture.

For sure there will be some improvement in the future ( same as K8 evlving to K10) but buldozzer architecture must last for 10 or more years ( AMD don't have enougth money for a faster architecture development )

Yep same here.

AMD already knows what AM3+ will need in terms of boards so I wish they would come out with the AM3+ chipsets and specs.

Ahh I didn't even have to touch the voltage and according to my amp probe it might be pulling 140w tops.

I noticed no real change in power consumption. I would imagine that needing a voltage bump would incur the biggest penalty over increaseing the clock speed and multiplier a bit.

The K8 (or sledgehammer) was 64 bit from the start. It was released in 2001 to compete with the Pentium 4.
