Here is a good way to get a ton of gaming PDF's and help a worthy cause (see Post #7 below for a description of what a "Gaming PDF" is and a complete list of the current books in the bundle!):

Gamers Helping Haiti BUNDLE.

Doctors Without Borders.

DriveThru RPG Press Release said:
Gamers Help Haiti! DriveThruRPG Offers a Mega-Bundle to Spur Donations

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

DriveThruRPG announced a major incentive to the roleplaying gamer community today to incite donations to aid in rescue and recovery in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Called the "Gamers Helping Haiti Bundle," the product includes over a hundred products totaling over $1000.00 in retail value. For a simple donation of $20 - all of which goes to Doctors Without Borders to support their post-earthquake Haiti relief efforts - RPG fans can have this once-in-a-lifetime collection of gaming products.

DriveThruRPG already had opportunities to donate up and running within a day of the disaster. When publishers began asking how they could support the cause, the bundle was created to be an all-inclusive shared effort. Those who donated at the lesser levels won't be left out, however; gamers who have already donated $5 or $10 will be receiving a special coupon code that lets them pay the difference from their initial donation to get the bundle.

"We are humbled by the generosity of both our customers and our publishers," said Sean Patrick Fannon, Marketing and Communications Manager for DriveThruRPG, "all of whom have stepped up at this time of terrible tragedy to offer aid to a desperate people. We are also very proud to facilitate these collective efforts, providing the necessary tools and technology to bring it all together."

More than tools and tech, though, DriveThruRPG is really putting their money where their mouth is, so to speak. "We have always believed in the power of giving and sharing to make the world a better place," said Steve Wieck, President and co-owner of the site. "To that end, we are matching funds with everyone who's making a straight donation at the $5 and $10 level."

There is no set date for terminating the donation efforts, though the bundle will only be available until the end of January.

Anyone wishing more information about this effort, or about DriveThruRPG overall, should contact Sean Patrick Fannon at sean@onebookshelf.com.

EDIT: Since I've posted this they've been slammed pretty hard, getting some 26k+ in donations so far. The pressure on their servers have made them move to giving a coupon code to be redeemed later. You should not let this dissuade you from participating. DriveThru is a leader in Gaming PDFs and a trusted source. They will be around for you to redeem your donation/purchase:

Unfortunately the overwhelming generosity of the gaming community is hampering our ability to deliver the orders purchased with the bundle coupon to you. Your products will be safe in your order history, so if you could wait a day or two before downloading them, it would be much appreciated. Please contact us if you have any questions.

EDIT #2: Reports are coming in that the coupon isn't necessary anymore and that all of the items will be added to your cart upon purchase. :)

Definitely a good deal... whatever it is. I can't figure out what a "gaming PDF" is, even after going to the link and investigating.

Looks like classic RPG game books (like pen/paper/dice Dungeons & Dragons) with a bunch of RPG magazine PDFs thrown in.

Appears to be down/hammered right now. Decent deal for "bulk", though I'd rather have actual books in this case.

Actual books are somewhere in the realm of $30/$40 each.

This is a great deal if you like to RP and don't like carrying books around with you, or are a "closet" D&D player.

Sorry, what is a gaming PDF? Is this like an RPG you play on paper?

A "Gaming PDF" is an e-book for RPGs (Role Playing Games.) Like most e-books they're usually 40-70% off their dead-tree (paper) versions that you would normally purchase from a local hobby shop or some place like Amazon or Barnes & Noble.

Most of the PDFs in this bundle are supplements for some of the most popular Role Playing Games around: D&D 3e/3.5e/4e, Pathfinder, Savage Worlds, Castle and Crusades, Spycraft, d20 Modern, Traveller, OSRIC, and MANY others.

There are some Core Rulebooks for lesser known, but highly regarded systems too. Heck, getting the Serenity RPG for $20 is worth the price of admission! And there are a number of games for the younger crowd or first time gamer as well.

There are Adventure Modules, Rule Expansions/Supplements, Campaign Settings and Locales, generic drop-in Maps/Artwork, and Historical/Mythological Compendiums to add spice to any genre of game or system.

Not all of this is high-end material, but there are a ton of gems in there and a good number of best-sellers that truly sell for the list prices you see on their site.

Below is a quick list of what you get (and they've added more to it since the deal started):

I mean the donation part is what would make one want to do this. Most of those you can get on torrent, and if some of them aren't torrented yet they will be after this...

Well, lets be clear: This is copyrighted material that's not "free." The publishers of these books are waiving their profits to make them available for this bundle to encourage people to donate to Doctors Without Borders. These are commercial products.

The fact that there are places around the net where copyrighted movies, music, and books are available isn't really useful information in a thread like this. When a DVD or music download deal goes up as a "Hot Deal", how useful is it for someone to come along and inform everyone that, if they want, they can probably find a place or 20 around the net that they can steal it?

My brother & sisters are into D&D, Magic, etc...is this something they would likely put to good use?

Go for 3 violations in one thread?

BTW at $1.99 a pop, the publishers of "Brandy's by the Bay" are really going to lose a TON on this. Definitely tons of people who were after that.

It's a great deal for a good cause. If you want to wait for other people to make a donation so you can go steal it, fine - but no need to post about it here.

I would do this, but I already donated to Haiti and I don't see anything I like. But that is a killer deal.

bump for good cause.

I just got an email saying that they are no longer issuing the coupon, and will automatically add the downloadable items to your order after the $20 donation.

They're up to $61,215.00 now.

Over $127K and counting with 7 days left on the deal!

It's good to see the gaming community responding so well to this. :)

The downloading of the files is slow and painfull. They are all seperate downloads that you're supposed to only do one at a time. And on top of that the downloads seem to be capped at 100kb/s. Too bad they couldn't provide everything in a single zip file to make the downloading easier.

Oh well. Still well worth it.
