Well, I just want something in the $1500-2000 range, that provides a great image, will be reliable, and will be compatible with forseeable standards (720p, 1080p, HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, DRM, etc.). In terms of size, I'd like something around the 46" to 50" area.

What can I buy?

Prices are always at their lowest during clearance time. That time varies by manufacturer. In the case of Mitsubishi that would be Aug-Sept. There will be 1080p LCD available after CES in January so that might push the price of 720p LCD down a bit. If you can go a little higher than $2k I'd highly reccommend the Mits WD-52527. Right now it's at $2500 but it'll drop after Christmas. Figure it'll settle at around $2300 by then.
