1080p ultra vs 1440p medium

I am thinking to buy this monitor AOC Q3279VWF (1440p freesync 48-75hz) but I am worried because I have rx 580 and don`t know how will games behave with 2k resolution. Alternative is some 1080p monitor. With 1080p I will able to play on ultra-high detail and on 2k I whink that medium detail will be some optimal settigns so that I can maintan freesync range.

What would you suggest? Also will I be able on 2k monitor to active freesync on 1080p resolution?

RX 580 can do 1440p fine, it seems less work for the card at 1440p med than 1080p ultra and at 1440p it looks better due to monitor native res.

I run a freesync 1440p monitor off a R9 380 4GB and I prefer 1440p with lower settings over 1080p with higher settings any day. Plus the 580 is a good 50-60% faster as well so you should be good.

My GTX 970 powers 1440p just fine... an RX580 is a bit better, I think you'll be set... I would prefer the resolution over the eye candy options.
