So if you play a game in 1080p, do you get less framerates than if you play non 1080p?

Most of the time your consoles image will just be upscaled from 720p to 1080p. Not many games support native 1080p.

Yes, very few games support true 1080p. Why? Because you'll get a much lower framerate than at 720p. There is no magic in the PS3, its bound to the same limitations that prevent you from getting the same framerate at 1920x1080 as you do at 1280x720 on a PC.
Sure, they can program a game to run at 60fps at 1080p, but it would be missing a lot of detail that could otherwise have been there at 720p or *gasp* 480p.

Ya, sometimes people don't realize that jumping from 480i/p to 720p, and then on 1080p is the same exact thing as upping the resolution in PC games. Don't be fooled by the single number and letter, it's just a higher resolution. Just like in PC gaming, a higher resolution takes much more processing to render, and the 360 and PS3 aren't quite powerful enough to pump out a bunch of 1080-native games. Titles such as Vitua Tennis 3 are native 1080p because there just isn't that much going on, so they will push less polygons and effects and are able to get that higher resolution.

Do you play RR7. There is alot of detail in that game, and I can absolutely tell it's 1080 compared to 720, and the frames are the same

If it didnt have to worry about 1080p, it would have looked/ran better at 720p.
I dont even think 50% of people with next gen systems have HDTVs - those with 1080p sets are probably 2-5%. Why go through all the trouble of building for 1080p considering its drawbacks when so few people can experience it?
