1080p digital picture frame or 1080p Android tablet as picture frame?

Thinking about getting a picture frame for my wife for Mothers day. I see mostly brands I've never heard of getting good reviews as a picture frame. Would I be better off using something built for this or getting a tablet?

I I go tablet it would be Android then need to find an app that does this well.

Honestly either would be fine, but if you want it to always show pictures without having to fiddle with it, then a straight up digital picture frame would be better. Otherwise you'll need to root and to various tinkering in order for it to get it to automatic launch picture frame app, etc.

I haven't yet found a good app for turning an Android tablet into a digital photo frame, there are a few that work, but not well. If you have the pictures on a NAS or networked storage of some kind, forget about it. NO app can do that.

Stick with the actual digital photo frame for local pics.

If you are looking for something that can run Android APPs, but also has the capabilities of a digital photo frame, than Sungale's Cloud Frame's seem to be pretty good with offering both options.

I saw this comparison online between Sungale and Nixplay that talks about the various features that both frames provide.

Might be worth taking a look, and hopefully it helps you out with deciding.
