1080p 670 sli?

im considering to go sli but is it worth $500 more to just play everything on max? or should i just wait for the 700 series? currently i dont have plans to go triple monitor

Are you limited to Nvidia for some reason? You could pick up 7950 Crossfire for about $600 (with a few free games I believe).

Everyone's definition to play everything on MAX is different (60 fps average, 60 fps minimum, 120 fps minimum for 120Hz). If you actually truly turn on all the settings maxed, then you still won't be able to max out some games like Witcher 2 or Metro 2033 anyway. So is it worth it? Only you can answer that depending on how much performance you need

We have guys here saying anything less than GTX680 SLI is a compromise and guys who enjoy gaming on an HD7770 after selling a 7970. It comes down to what games you play and what performance you want.

gtx670 should be enough to run just about anything at very high settings at 1080p. Not sure why you need SLi at that resolution?

wow what a tiny hard drive. my Steam folder alone is way bigger than that and I dont even have but about 20% of my games installed.


if you want to crank the settings in the handful of demanding games and you have the money for gtx670 sli then why not? its up to you though as nobody else can decide if its worth it.

yeah for some reason i never had the need to get a bigger HDD although i did have a 500gb paired with this one but i never had anything on that one so i sold it and kept this one

If i sli i will be skipping a generation and just wait for the 800 series to come out so would it be wise to spend 500 dollars now or wait till the 700 series come out then sell my 670 and upgrade? does anyone know when nvidia plans to release the next gen? q1 or q2 next year?

sorry but you dont run every game smoothly on "max" settings and 4x AA.

Right now a 680/670 is not quite enough to run everything on max @ 1080P and 680/670 SLI is a little too much. When I say max, I mean maximum in game settings. This is ignoring applying heavy anti-aliasing using your control panel.

I think the GTX 780 / Radeon 8970 are going to give us a single card that runs everything out there on maximum settings @ 1080P. Just my hunch based on current game stagnation and the rather small performance increase nvidia/AMD delivered over their past generation cards.

I think the 780/8970 will be a good 50% greater>680/7970. May be worth waiting, that is, if you can handle what is likely a 6 month wait to see the the first one show up for purchase.

I say do it. Where do you come up with $500 btw? 670's aren't that much.
Anyway, a single 670 isn't enough to keep games like Bf3 out of the 30's. You have likely noticed frequent dips into the 40's quite a lot. Two 670's is much better, and while you will be CPU limited in some of those games, having the GPU headroom is great and will ensure you get the most your CPU can put out. This headroom will also come in handy for upcoming games, like BF4, crysis 3, far cry 3 etc.
When i'm playing BF3, the GPUs are limited by CPU, but as soon as a ton of explosions hit the screen, the GPU's jump to 95% each and framerate holds rock steady. That head room is being used for those situations. It is these situation that a single card tanks to lower 40's / upper 30's.
