I wish it was industrial espionage...I'd make some money that way.

I just want to hear what the girls yack about. I know it gets kinda hot...I sometimes stand next to their area and pretend to read a memo while I eavesdrop.

so i'm guessing all the music on your computer is legal, and not downloaded from KaZaA or imesh or anything?

that came from the fact that people have selective morality...

it's ok to 'steal' music or pirate music... but it's not ok to listen to an audio conversation.

As a matter of fact all of the music on MY pc IS legal, and what he is asking about could very well be considered illegal.

feel like posting the threads where i mention piracy, besides this one?

All i am saying is don't jump on someone "oooh thats illegal.. youre going to jail.." unless you're clean as the virgin mary.

never said it wasnt.... in fact, industrial espionage is very illegal...

however i'm not gonna flame someone, because i myself am not clean.... why should i try to impose a moral standard on someone that i cannot uphold...

i hate the 'do as i say not as i do' mentality.

I don't believe it's illegal, but you are certainly risking your job. If you get caught, no explanation will get anyone to laugh it off.

Cell phone + automatic answer + mute + tape.

yep.. very..

President Clinton in October 1996 signed the Economic Espionage Act of 1996 which made theft of ?trade secrets? a federal felony.

if you're recording office conversations.. they're gonna get ya on that :)

also, The Penal Law contains a provision prohibiting Industrial Espionage which states:

"A person commits Industrial Espionage when he or she unlawfully seeks to surreptitiously learn of the secret business information of another. The term "surreptitiously learn" shall include the following actions: (1) Planting hidden microphones to learn of trade secrets, marketing strategies, and proprietary information; . . . . Industrial Espionage is a felony of the Second Degree punishable by imprisonment for ten years."

actually i don't believe mallow's post passes any sort of judgement. he's just stating that he believes the actions are a felony. he didn't say "so don't do it". he leaves it to the original poster to do with the information as he sees fit.

Damn skippy it's illegal. And guyver, your reply makes no sense to me. Since when does one illegal act change whether or not a second act is illegal?

However, should you choose to do this, there are more "spy catalog" companies out there than you can shake a stick at, with off the shelf tools to do just this.

A google search on appropriate search terms will find you all you need.

But you could go to jail if caught, and almost certainly would be fired of caught.

btw dont get caught killing kittens in the mens bathroom after listening to their 'hot' talk, that would be rather embarrassing....you eavesdropping tom you.:p

As far as valuable information that I might garner...it would be limited to how cute or inspirational power point files they just recieved in their email were.
