what do most gamers run (video settngs) their 19in monitors at? i understand completely that it's a function of machine/speed/quality/monitor size, but just wondering if there is one setting that is more "commonly used."

many thanks

For most games, U use 1024x768 with FSAA and anisotropic enabled. The Homeworld games though don't do well with FSAA - it blurs the text - so I use 1280x1024 (Cataclysm and original) and 1280x960 (HW2).

That's with a Radeon 9700 Pro and a 21" Nokia 445Pro monitor.

Since you have an LCD, you're basically limited to the native resolution.
Anything else will be a little messed up because it's non-native.

One reason I'll only buy a 1600x1200 LCD, because that way it can run 1600x1200 or 800x600 with no distortion/issues.

Thanks. MAX native on my LCD is max 1280x1024......i play mostly everquest and fps games and currently have settings at 1024x768. if 1024x768 most commonly used i suppose i shouldn't change a thing.

question: i really like having lost all of the clutter and improved space with my LCD. are CRT's truly that much more spectacular, so to speak? i used to have a sony 18in viewable on the desk, but wanted a bit more screen size and space.

thanks again

Being that you have a peppy system, games should be run at 1280x960 where possible for the best image quality (no scaling or vertical distortion). To do this, disable scaling in the ATI Control Panel under FPD and likewise set any such options on the FPD itself. If the game is limited to 1024x768 by design then it may be possible to run at that resolution for the best quality also, but the effective screen size would be reduced from 19 to 15" so in that case you are probably better to allow scaling. Also, if the FPD does have scaling options then you may want to compare the quality between that and driver scaling which should be better but my experience with the ATI driver option and an FPD without its own is that it does not work for other than the same horizontal resolution. That is when scaling is disabled 1280x768 and 1280x960 are displayed correctly between horizontal black bars but 1024x768 is still scaled and vertically stretched to fill 1280x1024.

WHy do you think you can run 800x600 without interpolation? You come up with that yourself? Link?

He's right since 1600 and 1200 are evenly divisible by 800 and 600.
