I actually tried to cancel my order especially after reading the thread on the shop4tech deal and from the threads on FW I gathered that it would be unusual for tys to be packed in this manner and there were other concerns as well. But they already shipped so if they are not Tys I will just have to deal with it!

My total (shipped to WI) came to $31.62
Deal is only good thru 3/24 though...

Welcome to the forums.

Thanks for the heads up on the coupon code, I didn't see it on their front page either.

Also got mine for $31.62 shipped to WI 🙂

Personally I've had better luck with my new NEC 16x with the -Rs (fuji +Rs would only burn at 4x despite 8x rating).

Hmmmm...

I have the NEC 3520 and have been burning the 8X Fuji (TYs that I got from Best Buy the last time they were 39.99 for 100) +Rs at 16X every time and never a coaster...Wonder why yours will only burn them at 4X?

i have the 3500 and i have the same problem with TY's from fuji. the fuji -R are prodisk i think and burn great, but the +R's always give me trouble. i have about 80 of them too 🙁

http://www.meritline.com/taiyo-yuden-4x-dvd-r-media-silver-lacquer.html

Use the coupon code listed on meritline's website for the $2 off to get that price.

Edit: I've heard meritline's reputation is less than perfect wit fake TY's, so I'm not sure about this unless someone who's bought TY's from them can verify.

I bought these. How do I indetify bootlegs?

My buddy and I got 600 4X-R TY from Meritline. They came (ever so slowly, UPS was a nightmare) and seem to work well. I can't overburn with my Lite-On 16X burner past 6X though. I tried burning some data at 8X and it crapped out. Coaster. Oh well, if you burn at 4X, it burns MINT.

I make it a blanket policy to check this forum before buying anything. For once I was able to contribute. 🙂

Burn something and do a PI/PIF scan.

Only if you have a liteon based (sony), benq/phillips or plextor drive.

Just got mine and nero info tools shows:

Layers: 1
Supported speeds: 8.0x - 6.0x - 4.0x - 2.0x
Blank Capacity: 4.38GB
Manufacturer ID: TYG01

if you look at the inside rim of the disc, there should be TY's own codes. and the discs or the cake box will say made in japan.
there are some fake TYs that will show it as TY, but the manufac just copied the code. (because the dvd id is voluntary, and not regulated, or something)

thanks for the deal tho, i missed out on it by like 5 mins last night.. 🙁
